I think mine is knackered.

I've cleaned it and the idle has got better but when driving the car stalls. There is no 'step'

So....

I went online and they are 'how fking much' from TVR dealers.

Anyone tried the eBay versions at £13??t

Carry the right part number and have a 24 month warranty.

I'm struggling as to how the TVR tax is so much on this one.

These things were on a lot of cars in the 90's.

I've read numerous times that the cheap ones are exactly that, cheap.
I got one from race tech for sensible ish money, and it fixed the crap idle.

Race tech want £70 (discounted from £140!) for a part that land rover don't have the front to ask that much for.....

And they have a lot of front!

These things were fitted to Maestros for gods sake

😉

I had one form ebay 2 years ago and it works fine. Having said that I got a new AFM cheaply off ebay and that didn't work at all so it's a bit pot luck. I would buy a cheap one and see if it works. If it doesn't send it back then buy an expensive one.

You need to check a couple of things when you get it- look for poor sealing around the motor- Ive seen air leaks when the motor is fitted poorly into the housing. More importantly check how far out the cone is from the motor- some of the pattern ones are about 3-4 mm different to the original, and wont work correctly. If you have RoverGauge you can drive the shaft out of the motor and trim it down and it will work.

Last year I bought one from British parts.co.uk, it was £35.19 + vat & delivery, and it has worked faultlessly so far.
The part No was ETC6660 which replaces ERR5199 which I think is the original LR number.

I've tried a couple of the cheap ebay ones. No good. Bought a Bearmach one off ebay for around £35. Spot on!

Just in case you haven't tried this yet. I took mine for its MOT having not run it for a while and encountered low idle and stalling as described. I disconnected the wires and got a very high idle (as expected) so determined that the ECU must be (for reasons unknown) closing it down too far. Hence I disconnected the ECU for a while (a few minutes I think) to clear all the settings and tried again, perfect idle smile Don't ask me exactly why the ECU did this but worth trying before replacing anything.

Rob,

Out of interest do you leave your battery connected during when its layed up?

I always disconnect mine (locked barn) and have never experienced a problem

Yep, I leave my car on a battery trickle charger in the garage. I'm guessing that disconnecting the battery would reset the ECYU anyway as it would have no power for extended periods.

Has anybody else bought a Stepper Motor from BritishParts.co.uk....?

If so, how did you get on?

There seem to be 3 to choose from, which one is relevant to the Griff 500
https://www.britishparts.co.uk/products?utf8=%E2%9...

I gather a decent, reliable, stepper is hard to come by these days, since most of the new ones are now made in the far east and are of dubious quality

My Griff has done 2,000 miles since the stepper was changed, and has been spot on, but in the last week, my idle has started to misbehave

Thanks, yes I saw that, which is how I came to find British Parts, I wondered if anybody else had also used one from that supplier?

If not, where are you guys buying your Stepper motors from?

Just to update this thread my stepper motor has been working for 2 years now perfectly. I haven't even taken it out to clean it in this time.

How do you know its the stepper - could be lots of things. I'd check the obvious first - loose plug, lead popped off, coil, AFM, rotor arm, dizzy cap etc
