Evening all, my flywheel is showing signs of cracking - can this be machined/skimmed out or is it time for a new one?

so long as the cracks are only superficial you can probably have a light skim. Without looking at it in the flesh its difficult to say, have a word with a local machinest and get their opinion, but looking at it I would say that it is possible!

Greg

Doesn’t look that bad to me!

Out of interest, have you a picture of the reverse of your Pre Cat fly wheel and weight?

Having blown up the pics in the pub on the phone (so scientific), is there some sort of crack penetration test that can be done? May well clean up completely fine but the wear track is pretty battered and a few of the cracks look quite open (ie deep?) Really not what you want failing under load so I'd be cautious but optimistic.

What was the clutch friction plate material out of interest?

Look like surface cracks to me Gary often see this at the shop on euro boxes a 20/30thou face off normally sees them like new and dont compromise the integrity of the FW only seen a couple that wouldnt but the FW was purple/blue anyway thus junk eek driven by dicks that have no mechanical sympathy
