Q has probably posed before, but can't find any..

The reverse lights have ceased operation, not getting any current at the connectors in the boot, so...

Is there a connector in the cabin, in front of the rear wheel-arches ?

If the switch at the gear-box needs accessing (checking/if need be replacing) it needs doing from the top ? > whale-tail off, 2 bolts at the back to lift it up, and handbrake-lever vertical ?

cheers, Frank

Hi Frank,

Just realised at the weekend that mine have given up again too... based upon previous experience it's quite likely to be the switch causing the issue. It's mounted on the side of the gearbox and is relatively easily accessed from under the car.

Cheers Tim,

Hope you got home unscatted, everything will be hopefully dry within a few days.....;)

Did try and locate this little bugger of a switch and thought it was at the N/S of the gearbox, over the exhaust, hence unreachable from under the car ? I'll have another go at it next weekend on a pals lift...

Thanks !

Yep, got home in one piece thanks. Tired but elated after an absolutely brilliant weekend.

The switch is on the drivers (offside) of my car, but not sure how the terminology works with lhd vs rhd wobble

Hopefully this picture might help:

No luck with this....

The switch isn't to the RH of the gearbox, in fact....it doesn't have the switch at all !!

What it does have is a micro-switch, next to the gear-shift (remember, LHD and LT77 gearbox)

with the g/l gaitor peeled away you can just about see, it looks a bit like this:

http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/m0417-tvr-car-part...

not sure how a Tuscan-and-later part ended up on a '93 Griffith.....

Unfortunately there is no point to take of the whale-tail, you can't reach the (really tiney) screws

So, it will be exhaust off, which is, for added fun, on the same side under it....still not a 100% sure it will work, plus prior dismantling stuff, I want the correct micro-switch ready on the bench, so if anyone could shed some light on this ?

In the process I also managed to bugger up the speedo....drive on the gearbox ?

Frank, I had a similar problem. On my Griff there is a connector on the offside between the gearbox and chassis, just in front of the lever. I think I had to take the chassis plate off. For me it was just a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting the connector - dry joint. I hope your problem is as simple as mine. Pete

When I fixed this problem on Adam's early 93 Chimaera with the LT77 box, it used a Landrover switch available here :-

LT77 Reverse Light Switch

I cant see why the Griff would have been done differently, unless it is something to do with the LHD build or has been modified during its lifetime.

That is indeed the switch I've got, but as said, the car only has this micro-switch thingy, either the combination of LHD (so G/L to the left of the car on the tunnel), hence little space, made TVR decided to do it differently, or it is a retro fit (will peruse the paperwork for that)

Maybe, just maybe I might be able to taken of the whale-tail, leather gaitors, rubber gaitors and a f/g surround, then i might be able to renew the switch.....
