Alternative Rear Lights
Discussion
Any pics of it on the car?
I am debating whether to change mine, I saw a Griff at Str8six over the weekend that has the 4 small round lights, and I really like it.
I've done a mock up to help make it more visual on my own car...
I've no idea who is able to do the conversion for me though
Currently...
Possible..?

Each to their own of course. In my opinion the originals work best with the design of the car: i) The way they are rebated into the edge of the wing reflects the scalloped edge of the doors and the leading edge of the bonnet, thus you have this unique TVR feature at the front, sides and rear of the car. ii) The shut line of the boot lid continue down through the inner edge of the lamp cover. iii) The somewhat bluff rear end of the Griff needs the bold rear lamps to add interest. The "pepper pot" lamps are too small to make a statement and do not complement any other feature of the car (they were taken from the Tuscan which of course uses the design idea of holes for lamps front & rear).
The car is currently going through a complete restoration, so it's still in a million pieces.!!
The rear lights with the 4 small lights, are from the SE...I'm not a big fan of those; I agree that they detract from the overall aesthetics...The ones that I've got, are aftermarket Vauxhall lights, the same pattern as the original Griff's
These are the Lexus lights on another Griff...
These are the SE lights...

If you like the Lexus style, go ahead, but personally I think they've dated really quickly. IMHO, the original smoked rear lights look the best. If you do change them, it might be an idea to make it that they can be easilly returned to a standard look if need be.
They just bolt in place...They are for a Cavalier, just like the Griff's are.!!!! macdeb said:
Standard is best on rear of a Griffith IMHO (you did ask)
+1I really don't understand the desire to mess around with a design classic. TVR fell into the usual run-out model cosmetic fettling trap on the SE which just doesn't work. If I bought one of those that was like that from build, I'd revert it straight away. Its not like the original Griff (or Chim for that matter) shout "donor", TVR did a great job of picking an off the shelf uncommon item and designing a car around it. Pepperpots belong on Tuscans and Tamoras just as the blended fascia lights on the T350 & Sag only work well for those shapes.
I agree, I don't like the dash or the wings mirrors on the SE"s either, it was for very good reasons that the Griffith won a Design Council award when it came out.

The SE Griff, is in the same boat as the MK3 Chimaera, full of parts bin accessories and left overs from other models . No real styling involved just TVR using up stock, or having run out of original parts waste not want not. A

dont do it. Honestly, they look kind of passable on a Corsa/Fiesta/19yrs olds stbox but for a classic car they look pants.
Ditto. It may be 'old git' talking, but the simple originals suit the car, otherwise it starts to look as Ian said - Corsa/Fiesta. Thats my personal opinion.MPO said:
Woefully bad that's what to make of them ! RichB said:
