Spiders on your Griff

Want the modern 'Spider' wheels on your Griffith? Leven Technology have the answer!

Due to the acute shortage of Griffith 500 (Estoril) wheels and combined with a surplus of good second hand 16” spiders from owners of more modern cars upgrading to 18 inch wheels, Leven Technology have come up with a solution that allows Griffith (and Chimaera) owners to use the more modern wheels. Like all these things it was far from straightfoward!

The original Griffith/Chimaera wheels are 4 stud fixing and the spiders use a 5 stud and those hubs aren't interchangeable. Leven has developed a way to modify the existing hubs and brakes, and together with some clever engineering stuff allows the Spider wheels to be used.

The choice of Spider wheels is not down to cost alone though with most owners simply wanting them for their curvaceous looks which perfectly compliment the car's shape. While the test car was a Griffith 500 Leven could see no reason why the conversion could not work as equally well on Chimaeras.

For those who will be at Bruntingthorpe track day on Saturday 29th March, Leven and the car will be there.

Looks good. What about 18" spiders at the back though, like Neill Anderson's car? And then maybe the front as well "max power" style. I guess the old Cerbera 4.5 17" alloys will go on to?

How much is the conversion going to be?

Superb! What many people have been waiting for. I must admit though that I really like the rear wheel being 1" bigger than the front - in the third picture the rear wheel actually looks smaller! Has there ever been a 17" spider?

I thought that too
Would be interested to see it on 18's, not to sure about the 16's somehow something just doesn't look 'right' but top class for someone having the engineering knowhow to have a go!

When the photos were taken there had been no adjustment at all to the suspension so it was still set up for 16" rear 15" front, thats booked to be sorted tomorrow and it should be sitting more "level" and "even" for the weekend.

It should be more beautifull on a Chimaera that has more rounded body forms better suited to these wheels.

More like a crate than a box.

Probably only work on 5 litre Chimps - those wheels may need some torque........

Just spoke to Leven - they will upgrade wheels for a Chimp, but they recommend a complete upgrade to a Griff for full effect. They will take the Chimp as cost for the conversion though

Ive just spoken to Simon at leven regarding the conversion and he said that if he has enough enquiries regarding Spiders then he will do a proper costing excercise in the next week or two. All I can say is "Get on the blower chaps and pester him till he does".....

Don't know who you spoke to, mate.

I've just got off the blower and they said they used the Griff, because the conversion was still in quality assurance, and they knew that if they used a Chimaera it would look soooooo good that the demand would be too much to handle at the moment. :ahem:

How do you do that then? AFAIK my standard suspension can't be adjusted

GarryM I can't answer that question untill tommorow afternoon when the man that knows and can has finished working his magic, if you're at Bruntingthorpe on Saturday have a look for yourself and see.

I'm not going unfortunately. Any chance you could post a pic or update the pic in your profile when the work is done? Thanks.
