Don't know who you spoke to, mate.

I've just got off the blower and they said they used the Griff, because the conversion was still in quality assurance, and they knew that if they used a Chimaera it would look soooooo good that the demand would be too much to handle at the moment. :ahem:

I agree, the griff needs all the help it can get in the looks department, but as someone once said
" you can't polish a turd "

( can you tell its friday )

No-one seems to have asked the obvious questions of "What is involved?" and "How much does it cost?". So there, I have asked.

I did look at this a while back. The options would be either to have the "standard" hubs drilled and tapped to take 4 extra studs, or source an alternative Granada hub to fit the Ford uprights. Shouldn't be too hard.

Four extra studs that makes 8 per wheel. dont fancy getting a flat with them on

I've just had an email back from Simon at Leven and apparently the factory are doing a conversion for approx £1300. Therefore Leven are no longer planning to do this.

That seems very cheap for a factory job!! Not including the actual alloys perhaps? How useful would that be

I'm probably imagining this, but I'm sure I read that this included wheels, tyres AND uprated brakes.

Is that for the 18" ones.

Can't possibly be, I paid more than that just for alloys and rubber alone for my Cerb.

I also really don't think the 18s will fit the Griff front very well. The narrowest are 8.5J which 225 tyres are pretty stretched on. On the Cerb you need to add a spacer to the steering rack to prevent the alloys rubbing. I'd imagine the steering on a non-PAS griff with these wheels would create a small army of Popeye impersonators!!

I thought that the griff was designed to be a wedge, ie 15's on the front and 16's on the rear. 18's all round would not look so good. Asked recently if had hub conv, leven, wether I could fit spiders 17's and 18's but can not do. Thats why Ive had ATP's fitted to mine {see recent threas New wheels on me griff.}
I'm well happy!!!

As soon as I figure on who to email at the factory I'll find out what it includes...

these wheels are the 16"ers that were intended to be the standard on Tuscans and Tamoras.

Guys, I got the low down from TVR at Back Home about this. They are offering a pretty good deal by the look of it for Griff and Chimaeras:

16" TVR Tuscan style spider wheels with tyres, TVR/AP 4 pot front calipers with cross drilled discs, new rear discs, new brake pads and braided hoses, new wheel bearings front and rear and hub flanges modified (on an exchange basis), new wheel nuts. £1399 inclusive of VAT! This only available directly from the factory - and applies only to post 1994 cars with rear vented discs.

thats sounds ridiculously good value, brakes alone should be over £1k if they are ap. hmm any idea on brake spec?

Yep, 4 pot TVR/AP Racing as fitted to Tuscan - 304mm diameter cross drilled ventilated disc.

This was on a leaflet handed to me by a TVR person on a 'Spring Promotions' leaflet at 'Back Home'. Cracking value - maybe they have alot of 16" wheels they need to move from stock? I'd suggest calling the factory directly for further details.

Edited to say - this does not include fitting - its parts only kit if I understand correctly!

Trust me, the factory deal does represent very good value for money. Yes they do have a mountain of 16" spiders to shift and are contracted to buy more which just aren't being sold on new cars, hence the need to shift them somehow ! The brake and caliper upgrade is actually the cheapest easiest option for them to get round the need to change the discs anyway, but just gives the package extra value. The only thing to remember is that because this is a "factory only" package i.e they've cut the margin to the bone so there is no spare profit for the dealers. What it means you will have to do is strip off your own hubs (this involves a 1/2" breaker bar, 41mm socket, 1/2" torque wrench, 2 other specialist tools plus other bits from a "normal" toolbox)) leave the car on axle stands while the hubs go to Blackpool (how good will the turnround be ?) then refit a very safety critical part yourself. Fine if you have the tools and knowledge to diy (thats about £200 worth of specialist tools minimum that don't have many other uses) or if you can get a dealer/independant who doesn't mind having your car on stands in the corner while the bits are away.

You just have to look at how good the 18" Spyders looked compared to the 16" on the tamora. Personally I would not go for the 16" Spyders they don't look any better than the originals but I'd be first in line for the 18" or even 17" if they did them.
