Getting back from a 10-mile run at the weekend I noticed coolant splatters starting from around the nearside cooling fan and travelling diagonally back across the engine bay towards the nearside wing. No obvious leaking hoses or caps. The expansion tank was empty and there were a few drips of coolant running along the underneath - in fact the whole lower section looked decidedly damp. The symptoms are exactly the same as 10 months ago, when a recore was diagnosed and fitted by a TVR independent in Cambridgeshire. That fixed the problem until now.

The question is: is it reasonable to expect a recore to last for only 10 months and less than 2000 miles? If I'd done the Paris-Dakar, yes possibly, but surely not on ordinary roads wih ordinary usage? Am I really faced with yet another recore or do I have any redress? Could it be anything else I've overlooked?

You have my sympathy, I also seem to get through re-cored rads at an unrealistic rate my last one (the third) took only 2 months to fail again.

I’m convinced its all down to getting the rad mounted such that it doesn’t pick up any body flexing and have tried a few things.

The other possibilities are that after a few repairs the end caps or the plate with the holes in that the core passes through, becomes a bit too baggy and as such the rebuild is not as good strength wise. This is just a guess, may be someone else could enlighten us further.

It could also be just a bad repair, I have also had one of these, it started leaking as soon as it was rebuilt, that though was replaced FOC.

I now just keep a careful eye on the coolant levels, running temp etc. all still ok.

Cheers,

Simon.

Mine had be changed at some point before i brought it.
Who ever had recored the old one, had also built there own Tank on one end out of God knows what, and had made a right mess as my local RAD dealer showed me where it was leaking slowely through numerous places.

Only had it on a few months before...... and now hopefully a new one is fitted
