Hello Folks,

I'm considering ways to get more vroom-vroom from my Griff 500, looking in particular at ACT plenum and a Tornado chip (with Mark Adams RR session).

V8 Developments have suggested a new cam - P404 - has anyone tried it? Apparently, with the new cam, improved induction and a properly mapped ECU, I could expect a power hike of around 60BHP...

The story goes on to say that drivability will be much improved too, so it all sounds just dandy. However, I'd really like to hear from anyone who has experience of this (or similar) project.

Best regards,
Marlon.

Marlon, am halfway through this mod (see profile) at the mo it feels much more eager and goes like an exocet, runs v lumpy at sub 2000rpm, this'll all be sorted once the RR sess is complete

had a 404 in mine, for about 5ooo miles now.
taps like a bugger after 1ooo or 1 trackday.
loads of torque, mine runs with an RT filer (KN) ignition at 31.5 degrees at 4000 revs.
Mark adams had a look at mine, and told me not to bother chipping! infact he thought he'd already chipped it! we checked...he hadn't
only 275 bhp (500HC) but around 300 lb/ft from 2.5 - 5k revs. ( and that was with the tappets all over the place!!!!!
Idles fine, picks-ups great in any gear and has no lurch above 1,500 revs.

if you can live with the noise, get one!

Guillotine, you may find that adjusting the tappets makes a big difference to the power output,
Griffith 500 with 404 should crack 300 bhp.

Where can you get this 404 cam and how much is it fitted?

V8 Developments is the only place you can buy this cam. it was developed by Rob (at V8D) and Kent.
say Apache told you to phone, i think hes hoping to get a good deal when he goes back for the nitrous upgrade

Hmmm.

I'm a little concerned about the lumpy idle and tappet noises. I don't expect a 5L V8 to be as smooth as angel delight, but I would like to keep it smoother than (to use the title of another recent post) Granny's custard! Not that her custard makes tappety-tap-tap noises, but some of her joints do so there's an analogy there somewhere. Perhaps. Not.

Maybe I should get the ACT parts fitted and get the cam done later when I've experienced it first-hand on SOMEONE ELSES car! Is there a good reason why I should wait until the cam decision is made before I get the car re-chipped and RR'd? Presumably the new cam would change the engine dynamics and require different ECU settings? I'm guessing, so please correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks All,
Marlon.

Si, no keeping the old girl, much as I like the Tuscan it is a different animal from the old grunter and I would miss the V8.
Personally I think TVR would have enjoyed more success if it replaced the aged Buick lump with an LS1, still it's PWs train set.
