As a new member to the forums, i just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've been visiting PistonHeads for the past year or so now, but never got round to registering.

I'm looking to buy a griffith 500 over the next couple of months, so your advice may be called upon at some point!

Happy motoring.

PS. does anyone have any hi-res pics (1024x768 or bigger) of griffs that could be used for wallpapers? There seems to be very few large images on the net.

Hi there,

you looking at buying privately or via a dealer?

If buying privately, get it inspected by someone like Rob Ingleby - there are a bunch of tings to look out for, so you really need a specialist to be on the safe side.

With regard to large Griff images, YHM...

Good luck!

i'll probably be buying trade, purely so i can trade in my fiesta zetec-s and not have the hassle of trying to sell it privately.

i think i want a post 97 griff 500 as they're supposed to be more sorted than the earlier ones. it'll be a bit of a jump going from a 100bhp fiesta to a 320bhp griff. recently drove a 360 modena and diablo so i know i should be able to cope with the power... in the dry at least!

Hi, have a look at this website:

www.btinternet.com/~david.hughes15/scc1/default.htm

It is being built at the moment, but I can mail any picture off the site to you at above 1024 size if you like. I do mean any pic and nit just the gallery images. More photos should be added this week. Mail me through the profile if any takes your fancy, but a word of warning the files can be quite big.

Yep! agree with julian there James - use someone like Rob Ingleby, you'll find him at findasportscar.co.uk.

Takes all the hassle out of finding and buying and can usually set you up with a pretty good deal as well!

Not sure about the difference between a 97 and a 98 Griff 500 - I was talking to someone at H.L.Gorners open day yesterday and they mentioned that the pre 98s had a slightly wilder cam on them, making them slightly more powerful than the later ones if anything(?)

Either way, if you find the right car, in a colour combo that you love, then I wouldn't worry about the year too much - they all go like stink!!!

'Not sure about the difference between a 97 and a 98 Griff 500'

I believe that up until October 1997 they were (supposed to) give 340bhp; after that they were detuned to (ha) 320bhp.
