I was burbling at a leisurely pace up the A38 in Staffs the other night, when a posse of motorbikes and a white Aston Martin DB7 came screaming past at warp speed. Naturally I tagged along. Leaving the next roundabout the AM floored it - fantastic sound. The bikes dropped back and left us to it, when suddenly there was the most horrendous metallic crunching noise from my engine compartment followed by a horrible screeching noise. Oh Fcuk, I thought, I've lunched the engine. I engaged the clutch and coasted into a convenient layby to have a good cry and a peek at the damage. A look underneath revealed that it was just that the lip spoiler had come off and was dragging. My relief was undescribable!!

In conclusion, I think the spoiler must have a cooling function, as it sure as hell isn't strong enough to exert much downforce!

If I understand it correctly (which is debatable) the device doesn’t provide down force like a F1 front or rear spoiler. It just disturbs the air flow under the car, which encourages more to go through the radiator and reduces any lifting effects (by how much is also debatable).

Cheers,

Simon.

Before i bolted my plastic one on my car i did many many runs, with the original and without it and it does effect the cooling. This was tested measuring the temp after the rad with a digital guage. The one i now have is quite a bit better and i can come down the farm track without loosing it as it doesnt underhang at all. It will be interesting to see what the "new" posh one is like.

A company called TVR Casoli offer replica Tuscan S front splitters, would one of these fit a Griff ? or would it need to be fitted along with the rear spoiler to maintain correct balance.

Anti-lift or cooling? I favour anti-lift. Firstly, you often hear comments about Griffs and Chimps getting light at the front at speed (about 130 in my case so not a major problem!). A strip of metal is just the sort of thing TVR would slap on as a 'development' to try to fix the problem. Secondly, if overheating is a problem, it's not likely to be at any speed, where the ram effect is adequate to push the air through. Overheating invariably happens at slow speeds or when stopped, at which speed a spoiler has zero effect!!

Maybe write to TVR and ask them???
