I have recently noticed a strong smell of petrol from the engine bay on start-up, cold or hot still the same which has coincided with high fuel consumption and a dip in performance. Checked for leaks, none evident.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

perished hose that connects the fuel lines to the fuel rail?

this leak is best viewed from underneath.

if there's a very strong smell of petrol plus the noticeable drop on the gauge then its probably best to assume you do have a leek untill proven otherwise

I had a leek but I put some salad cream on it and ate it.

I also had a worn fuel hose on the drivers side of the engine bay near the back where two rubber hoses join the metal fuel rail just above the rocker cover. They get a bit hot there.

Thanks for your replies, maybe I'm worrying about nothing - I've still bought a fire extinguisher though!

I had a leak too last summer. Had just filled it up on a hot day, nose down on a steepish hill. Came back from work and petrol was dripping out of the front. Seemed it was coming out of the airbox thing situated in the front offside wing. Since then, I never overfill it and have been told by two different TVR specialists to leave the petrol filler cap at the first click so there's a vent. Never had a problem since.
