What are the options for exhausty noise on the 500??

I love the noise the car makes, however I have a sad addiction to overrun pops/bangs/burbles....

The bible states that some 'sports' exhausts or mods to the existing boxes can cause the noise to be too much for trackdays. I'm perfectly happy with the looks of the standard exhaust, and the performance - but a touch more rort would be nice without sounding like a SEAC wedge

Equally I don't want boominess on long motorway runs. It's a bit of a tricky tradeoff!! Anyone here had interesting things done to their exhaust??

I have straight through pipes on the rear box, and will probably have the pre-cats taken out at my next service. I am sure that if i will have to invest in some Ad on silencers for Track days as i am sure i will do some eventually in the Griffith.

straight through rear pipes and precats out is a fairly common mod - I'm pleased with mine.

Hello fella's.Friend of mine has a Griff 500 and has had his exhaust "modified" and his cat removed and it sounds fantastic.Ref insurance companies I don't think you need to inform them as you are only tweeking the db level and not increasing performance but come MOT time there may be a problem with emissions but I may be wrong

RudeGirl removed the rear boxes completely and I think it sounds lovely.. I've heard of people cutting them open, removing all the baffles and welding them up again, but that seems like a bit more work to me..

Mmmmm... I wouldn't be so sure. In my experience, an insurance company will do anything to wriggle out of paying out for a claim and not having any cats in your car, when it should, does constitute a modification.

A standard system can be borderline on noise at some tracks.
Mine is around the 97/98 db level & this is right on the limit for Goodwood for example.

I enquired and my insurance company said "no problem". No additional cost or anything!

with my 4 litre chimaera, straight through pipes in silencer... 115dB at 4500rpm... even with an aftermarket silencer I wouldn't be allowed on any proper circuit in the UK. Something to bear in mind...

Straight through pipes on silencer box + precats out...... (5.0 Griff)

Noticed more noise and a deeper burble. Car revs rise slighty quicker than before. My assumption here is slighty blocked or breaking precats.

No running issues. Would tell you the db at 4500rpm (trackday measure) but my meter isn't here yet

have the standard system piped as below, precats out then fit the inserts on trackdays.

all as below, had mine done and it sounds great and has passed all noise tests...just!

no probs on MOTs, no tweaking required

I can second that, heard it on Tuesday, first of all from about 1/2 mile away!!! No good though if you like to listen to classical music such as Kylie and Jason whilst driving as you just won't hear it, if that's not convinced you to get it done...

What's a sleaved box then? How is it done?

Seasider did explain but I'll leave it to him to give you the details, hopefully tomorrow if he's back on the interweb.
