My 1996 Griff seems to have developed heater control problems.

The symptoms being no discernible change in temperature when adjusting the control knob, and a persistent 'whirring' from the passenger side of the cabin. The sound is similar to the sound the heater controls made when operated, but is now constant as soon as the ignition is on.

Any ideas what to do - is there anything I can check/prod/fix myself, or is it a specialist job?

TIA

David,
Had the same thing. Fixed by tightening the fixings which attach the heater control motor to the water valve in the passenger footwell. Also I believe there are a couple of microswitches there to control the stops on the motor that may have become misaligned. Worth a look anyhow.

I had the same thing as well. Checked and fiddled with the controls in the passenger footwell but nothing doing. Had the dash out for another reason and unplugged and replugged the heater ECU (has a ribbon cable attached). All fixed! Loose connection I presume.
