Just a note to recommend Turtle wax's 'Chip stick' from Halfords, big range of colours, basically its a hard wax crayon and polishing cloth v. easy to use. I did this on the w/end. Having a dark blue machine with at least 30 chips on the nose, it looked v. spotty However all done in 10 minutes, cant see them at all now , all gone! Give it a go. Which means I can put-off the respray and spend the money on plenums, trumpets and re-chipping instead. WhooHooo!

Do the same on mine, works really well, until you pressure wash it, then it all comes out.

Pressure wash!!! The handbook recommends you steer well clear of jet washes. I certaintly wouldn't jet wash ours - hand wash only.

I stupidly used one of those do-it-yourself jet wash / foam brush jobs 2 weeks into my ownership. There was grit in the brush and I sgratched the buggry out of my bonnet and perspex cover Do not go near them

I know what you mean,, I don't really give it the big one with the pressure washer, stand well back and just get the loose dirt/grit off before hand washing, trust me, I wouldn't do anything to hurt my baby, but thanks for the advice.

What he forgot to mention was that our Griff gets hand-dried too . If you leave it dry on it's own, you can see where all the water droplets were - how anal is that? But at least the car looks fab when it's done - well worth the extra effort...

Hmmm...

Tried the Turtle's crayon at the weekend myself, but wasn't at all impressed with the results. Sure, if you stand at 20 paces from the car and squint your left eye with your right eye completely shut, you can barely see the stone-chip that I 'Turtled'. But then you can barely see the car either. "Bugger it" I say, enjoy driving the car and don't sweat about chips or scratches. If you drive it hard and don't wash it, the chips don't show. Keep it running sweet, keep the interior tidy, the outside will get dirty - it's a car. Now where did I lay that bundle of fifties for a respray?

Try going over the crayoned chips with (if it's a dark coloured car) black colour magic, this fills the chips even more and almost makes them level, you can, with a bit of perseverence make it look really good.

Are there any advantages to using the crayon compared with normal touch-up paint?

Use the last 10 seconds of the pressure wash phase to clean out the brush. Works wonders. Still best not to use it on a TVR though.

30 chips !!!!!!!!!!! I wish !!!!!!!

I reckon I must now have in the region of 1000 chips on the front .... disregarding the wing mirrors etc ..

It is the worst Griffith I have ever seen for it.

Which is a bit different to how it looked 12 months ago ...

Front end respray being done in the early part of next year ...

Simpo, only that I've never managed to get touch-up paint level, well I have but it took ages and there are loads of chips on the front of mine, I'd be there for days and it would look like it had the pox by the end of it.

Blimey!!! And I thought my "sieve" was bad. How do you do that???

Looks like you've been letting John Travolta drive it.

Shame you don't live locally, I'd be more than happy for you to use your method on mine.

I think we've discussed our stone chips before on a thread about useage and I had to concede defeat! Mine's really starting to look messy though and can't decide a) whether to have a total re-spray rather than just front-end, and b) where to take it.

Where are you planning to get yours resprayed and how much is it? Is it someone that's been recommended and where are they?

Lanka did what it says. It'd drive you nuts doing a bundle of stone chips though.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend of my dad's who does all of my bodywork stuff for me ...

Haven't got a cost yet, but used them for my S and had the whole bonnet done, drivers side rear quarter and across the rear .... that came to £575. And thats a lot of area ...

The Griffith will cost me more, but I am budgeting no more than £1000 to do the front end and passenger door (thanks motorcycle courier dickhead) and the mirrors ...

They are based in North Walsham, Norfolk. Howard's Coachworks is their name.
