Hi Barreti,

When I receive the drawing off Antony J I will make a start on a panel with the original layout, does the temp control switch have coloured LEDS(red and blue?) OR LETTERS H and C? and I presumme the screen /Feet switch just has UP and Down arrows. Also is there an illuminated symbol under the window switches? Need as much info as I can get please.

G.M

Right Guys I now have a sample of the original panel,(thanks Antony J)the symbols for HOT and COLD seem to be just two small round clear dots of about 2mm in diameter do the fibre optics shine through this and are WHITE?

The up and down are just arrows do these shine through WHITE as WELL, there is around dot in the middle of the Arrows of about 5mm is this illuminated as well?

The window symbol is clear as well is this correct

Are there no colours at all on this panel?

Please help so as I can get this underway

Thanks

G.M

Hope it wasnt broken in the post ! hehe

The hot/cold show up as red/blue on my car , so either those dots you can see have some colour in them.
OR the fibre optic is coloured. The light source for the fibre optics is just and ordinairy lamp.

Window switch graphic ideas for you Green Meanie

Graphics
VW Golf

Merc

Range Rover

Custom

Simple Arrows
BMW 7Series

Ford Mondeo

Ferrari Dino

Not specific

unknown

I think the rounder stuff might suit best and I prefer CUSTOM in the graphics and the soft edged triangles of NOT SPECIFIC in the arrows selection.

What do you think chaps?

Does anyone know anything about the mysterious round dot between the up and down arrows is it and illuminated position?

I am going down the road of producing a better standard one as per the warning panel.

What do we all think?

Can't think of any reason to have anything between the up and down arrows myself.

Me neither Barreti, but it has come back to me what is behind the panel re:the fibre optics.
Each optic is glued into position in the back of the console, then there is a small opaque plastic ball which helps flare the light out at the panel.

When people start to remove the panels to fit these new ones, it will become clear what I mean, its obviously worth cleaning your little ballshehe as they get dusty and will transmit more light when clean.

Also worth fitting a new lamp to the optic unit, as it can blacken over time.

Hi Grean Meanie,

The colours for the symbols on the heater panel are produced by a coloured filter disc inside the fibre optic lamp assembly, with red and blue for the hot/cold dots, and green for the heater air direction arrows and window lifts.

The discs can melt or move inside the unit over time, resulting in all white symbols. The fibre optic unit comes on with the ignition normally which I thought was daft as you cant see them in daylight very well so I wired mine to come on with the side/panel lights.

If any one has a damaged light filter disc, you can put a piece of thin coloured acetate material at the other end of the light pipe by removing the glass diffuser balls from the console end and popping the acetate beneath, then putting the balls back. You can have any colour you like then.

There is also a tiny bulb as standard in the fan switch, this just about shows through on my car around the top edge of the blower knob to show where it is on the panel in the dark, probably not important to most folk.

Thanks Griffer

Very informative I have no fibre optics left in my Griffith Heater panel as it was all removed by the previous owner.

Hi
The panel is still on going,I have a problem with the material thickness maybe could bond the black engraved panel onto a clear backing piece. I think I will make the engraved panel in the thinner material first.

Dots for HOT and COLD or the letters H and C WHATS THE COLLECTIVE OPINION?

WILL THE KEEP ARROWS FOR UP AND DOWN

LET ME KNOW YOUR VIEWS PEOPLE BEFORE I MAKE THE PANEL

SORRY its taking so long but the brown stuff has hit the fan where I work, but please let me know you views on the above.

Thanks

Sorry GM, thought this was the MIL panel thread. Must learn to read rolleyes

I'd say arrows like your MIL bar for up and down (it makes the two look more like a matched pair) and just dots for hot and cold.
