Surrey Folding Roof
Discussion
Mine arrived today from Roger and it's superb. Great quality, great fit, great look . . .
Fit's on top of everything in the boot (still packed from weekends camping at Snetterton after spannering at the 24hr race). Although not as much kit as a 2 week tour of Europe, the hard panel is still in the boot with all the kit and it still fits sooo easily on top that it is evident it will do the same when touring (leaving on Monday for 2 weeks)
It also fits across the back behind the seats and the concern I had for someone my height (6'3") of catching my head on the tensioning bars were eradicated at the Growl and I'm happy to report it's no issue on mine here either. I may still try and protect my bonce from the very odd occurrence it may come somewhere in contact with it, but I struggle to see when.
Colour match to the rear panel (recently replaced) is very very close and looks identical at a glance. Soooo much space saved, no hard panels to deal with and can now properly utilise the boot space . . ..
As you can see I'm chuffed. Photos to follow when I've got time. I was only prepared to order one after I'd seen one in the flesh and tried it out. Having met Roger, tried it out and been convinced, Barretti lent me £200 on the spot (thanks mate) to put a deposit on to make sure we got it in time for this years tour. Thanks again to Roger for putting the effort into getting it made and trimmed in time as well . . .
It's not the cheapest solution, certainly a lot more than sawing your own panel in half, but I assure you, having messed about with both solution, for us this is without doubt the right solution.

It's a great product and glad you're happy with it. Must have been some package to be delivered!!
I agree it isn't the cheapest but the S&D option isn't cheap either and you have to sacrifice yours/spare panel. If you use a spare you've got the potential of it not fitting to well also.

You do know don't you that after taking it out in the rain it will now be in your garage looking like a weetabix thats had hot milk poured on it.
Rain You'll be offroading it next.
Glad to be of service mate, and I'm VERY envious of your trip. Keep in touch, I'll have my feet up too, drinking Cervesa, so I want daily reports to keep me occupied.

Now you have 3 roofs !!
Tsk! Well that demolishes the usual Grifferists' claim not to need any, doesn't it...As you all get older, I'll wager we'll see them being thatched soon
Yeah yeah yeah . . . well to set the record straight, in the 5k miles covered this year so far I think we've only had the roof on 3 or 4 times. One of those being the test of the new roof in the rain . .
Yes, we are stupid enough to keep driving in the rain, up to a point ! In fairness though, the weathers just been superb this summer . .

Funny this topic should just suddenly come to 'light' - while my Surrey roof is currently being made by Roger!!
Finally got to see one in the 'flesh' at the Griff Growl and to be honest it was as good as I had hoped and expected it to be! Planned to buy next year, but with gentle persuasion from 'er'indoors, placed the order there and then.
The following week we were off to France for a long weekend with other TVRs and 'Italian Stallion' cars - 25 in all, and Roger hired me his first one he ever made.
Now for those of you who are thinking of buying..... this is the bit you want to hear.
Right then.... his prototype (in black) fitted a treat, comes with two alloy bars which fold like knee joints when not in use. These alloy bars each have a 'sleeve' so when the roof is on, they become straight via the sleeve - a few twists of the bar to take up the slack of the roof, and the targa top from a distance looks like the original!
The Surrey roof when not in use comes in purpose made bag, however due to the boot being full, the fold up roof could 'just' sit behind the two seats which is better in my opinion. Unfortuately for the trip it decided to drizzle all day on the Saturday. However, out of something bad came something good, because this meant the roof could be put to the full test. Absolutely perfect, no rain in the car! And certain stood up to the test - in fact well impressed!
When the roof was on, there was no wind noise at all. And I am assured by Roger that the new ones are even better than the originals, better struts and better foldaways.
All in all - even with the use of the very first one made - I can say I was very impressed with it and had positive comments by all on the trip who seeked an interest in it.
The cost is £475 plus carriage which like the previous posting said, will take you over the £500 barrier.
Now like all things when tested there should be positives and negatives. All I can honestly say, even with the prototype it was all positive. I really will be using this new roof more than the original from now on.
Having had a complete new roof made last year in red for my dark red Griff - Roger has gone to great lengths to get the right red for the new roof, so like everything else customer service is excellent as well - And NO I don't work for him and YES I will pay the full price for the product on handover!!
Now as a pro photographer I have offered Roger a photo shoot in a couple of weeks time at Kemble Airfield, Glos. This will be on a week day, so if anybody living in close distance and wants to pop along to have a look at possibly three TVRs with these Surrey roofs, please email and I will let you know when exactly we plan to do the photo shoot. Date to be decided between Roger and I on completion of my roof.
Hope this helps! Look forward Roger to seeing my red one in full glory, hopefully in a couple of weeks!!
Cheers

Marz32, will you let me know when you do the shoot as it sounds like a great excuse for a run to the west and a couple of beers with a mate who lives down that way.
Podie, the roof is that good you could offset it's costs by selling your hard panel, I'm honestly wondering why I'd need it at all (though mine isn't for sale )
Ray_von, cheers for the link . .
Will get some shots done today hopefully as the weathers dried up after 2 days of rain . . .

You're welcome! As said mine is under construction with Roger as we speak - the red material should of been ordered from BAS ( where I got my hood from last year) within the last couple of days - the trimmer is away for a long weekend. By the time the material arrives next week, realistically I see Roger phoning me from the 13th onwards - then it's a case of an open window for the both of us during a week day. Google Kemble Airport and the cafe AV8 - I have permission to photograph there, planning to shoot around 11-12noon - now look at the pics over a spot of lunch in the cafe on site

We went to BSG a couple of weeks back and I used Andreas surrey roof as we were camping and packed to the gunnels. Torrential all the way these with a bit of thunder thrown in, plus loads of spray on the M42, M6 and no leaks. Better weather on the Sunday so roof in boot (just) with loads on the back shelf - would never have been able to do this with the hard panel.
