So does the sender just need to be close to the bolt - you don't need to have a magnet or anything attached to the prop?

I've secured 3 months contract work today - so I'm in Ant anyway.

Regarding the LT77 gearbox sender what do they need to get the info for that?
I've got an oscilloscope so could possibly assist to work it out.

I'm a bit undecided which route to take - am I worrying about nothing?

Chris

The sender will just need to be close to the bolt head, as the prop/drive shaft rotates, each bolt head will create a pulse.

Speedy can calibrate the speedo to use the LT77 sender, but the whole idea is to get away from the speedo using that.

As stated before , unless you have an aftermarket ECU, the original ECU may need to recieve the pulse from the LT77 sender to stop the car stalling. Therefore it would have to stay wired.

Yes absolutely right regarding the gearbox sender - though I do have a working one along with a spare.
I know its working OK as when you come to a stop its idling at about 1100 rpm, then as soon as you actually stop there's a marked drop to about 950.

My speedo does actually work when its had 10 minutes to wake up - its dead when you first set off then the needle starts wavering and under reading then eventually it reads the correct speed with the needle being rock steady at the appropriate speed.

PM me whan you want some dosh. I'll think about which sensor to drive it from.
I presume the easiest process regarding mileage / speedo needle etc is to send them the old speedo?

Right, sorry ANT its my financial year end and been soooooo busy,

now i have a little time....

My non-understanding questions........

My speedo milometer works fine and is accurate..........but,

However, the speedo mph is so wrong,it shows about 18 mph whilst doing 30mph

Yes i do want to get away from the old clock, but what exactly do i need as it says about needing the old speedo box located in the lt77 box for the ecu fuelling???

If mine doesnt work correctly i wont benfit, or will i ???????

Whats this about something to measure the new digital speedo, from a axle drive........

Totally lost with it mate, bewildered really>>>>>>>>>>>>

Please advise in english.......lol

Right, for Andy ........

A car with the 14cux needs to see the pulse from the LT77 gearbox sender, so this must stay.

The new speedo would have a sensor pointing at either prop of half shalf bolts to give the speedo some pulses.

The new speedo and sensor would be independant of the old sender..

The new speedo has a calibration facility so you set it up your self and its accurate!!!!

ETA, the later cars still had 14cux with a sensor on the diff, so maybe there is a way to not use the LT77 sender....

Hi
this is too early for me as the car is in bits and probably won't be mobile 'til mid next year. My S1 (.5?) will have a cossy 24v(not the original 2.8/2.9 12v) MT75 box (not the original Type 9) and a 4.27 diff (not the standard 3.64) by then. It is the change of diff ratio that will cause the concern unless the speedo can be driven from pulses off the drive shaft and not the prop, also I have not looked at how the original was driven yet. I'll have to drop out - sorry.

Yes but I think I want to drive it from the LT77 sender, ideally I'd like to make a plug in replacement even if I have to fit the plug etc myself.
I'm still running the original ECU so I need the sender anyway.

WIth a bit of effort I can work out what frequency the sender kicks out at certain speeds, or is it an easy process to calibrate it anyway?

I presume they need a speedo needle in which case it will have to come off my speedo.

Chris, in that case, you may as well just send your old speedo, pretty sure they said they can work out the cal from it.
Even better, if you have the sender out of the box send them both.

Ant,

Thanks for the email reminder. I'll give it a miss. My speedo works fine and I have the original ECU so will always need the old type sender whilst I have this. Tempting though as a lot better than trying to find parts for either end.

I,m still in ......

how are they going to sort out the radioactive green looking light.

My current speedy cables speedo, came with white light..... I changed this for a modern green filament bulb, but it still looks white in comparisson

I was looking at my current speedo at the weekend, it has the right needle......... I am presuming if i send my speedo back to them they will be able to calobrate the new one to match.

Hoover, thats great, I will call tomorrow and see what deal I can get.

If you already have a sender on the diff or something you will be able to cal it yourself, it wont be difficult.

So thats just us three......

Andy, not sure how much we are going to get due to low numbers.

Spoke to Speedy today and they said they will see what they can do with the price.

So need definates really.

Hoover,Barky I am going to send all bits together.

Barky want to send your old speedo to me ready? Along with letter stating your mileage?

Hoover, just send me a letter re:mileage I will donate pointer for you.

If we start sending them bits seperate I think it may get messy.

yes OK I need to remove it from the car first.
I can do mileage letter no problem but it will be kind of similar to the mileage on the odometer of the speedo I'm sending!

Will get it out of the car at the weekend.
