Is there a recognised industry standard for methods of measuring power output?
Yes about 26 of them. There's the Ford way which involves getting someone else to build the engine, the Renault method where shrugging the shoulders in proportion to the power is used, the Ferrari method which involves identifying any car that has/claims to have more power and applying orders for them to slow down and let the Ferrari through.

I could go on. They all do it. Why should we beat up TVR when they are struggling to compete without government hand outs or bailouts that the big boys get. Anyway I bet most TVR owners don't say how much BHP has the car got "340 but actually it is wildly overestimated and only realy got a smitcheon over 260 bhp" In a bar it would definitely be 340 of the meanest loudest SOB horses you can find this side of the planet or sommat like that.

I had my Griff 500 rolling road tuned and it has 230 bhp at the wheels - equating to 290-300 at the flywheel and it has a fueling problem - they reckon when it's sorted I should have about 320-330 so I'm a happy bunny - however I'm told the best guy to sort it has a rolling road on an aerodrome in Oxford and sets up the Tuscan Racers - does anyone know who this is ?

It's a fact tiv's are as fast as fcuk.

Unfortunately the old chestnut of " ...it's faster as it's got 350bhp per tonne... " often comes out for a good roasting. This is clearly a waste of breath bearing in mind all the above; weights & real power.

Best to stick to expletives, rather than numbers.

Danny, I'm not being funny, but how can a blue-printed engine have a higher compression? Assuming blue-printed means what I think it does (i.e. built to a tight tolerance to specs)

I meant, higher compression *in addition to* blue printing.

Here's an idea - what about, when I get the next PH meet organised, getting Jools to organise a day of TIV rolling road testing at his usual place? If that's in Chesterfield, then we can all go on to my proposed venue at Clumber Park? Whaddya say?

While we are on the subject of this - anyone remember that Lambos and Fezzas also vastly over quoted top speed, power output and 0-60 times. So before you start pointing the finger at TVR lets get the others involved while we are at it....

Cheers,

Paul

Joolz has been trying to organise this for ages - his local RR (Noble) is booked up for about 2 months though. Come on Joolz... let's have a date.
