Thanks Cooperman.

Being honest I dont aim to win trophys, I only would like to build a mini rally car, and join the legend, if not building it. I wont even drive myself, as I have no skills, I will only build the car and service it. A friend of mine will drive it.
Fortunatly in my country, we dont have many cars competing in the Historic League. I dont think that we will punish the Porsche 911RS or the MkI Escorts. But I dont care. We will race a mini, and that all ok. Everybody will be smiling while we roar along.

Soo, the transmission. I see. I intend to use a standard transmission with a x-pin 3.9 or 4.1 diff. The engine will be about 60-65BHP. I would like to keep it close to standard for the first season as we dont have any experiences, nor funds enough to rebuild the car a dozen times in a year. What I would like to have first is a good chassis/suspension. Thats what I want to focus on first.

What suspension setup do You use?

Hi,

Does any of You have any of the homologation papers nr 1298, 5013 or 1460? I would like to compare them to my 5284. Just to see if I can find better. It looks like I can only use the S discs after 78. And drums are... well...

Is there any way to use the 7in disc drive flanges and the hubs with the Cooper S discs and calippers?

Thanks. I decided to buy Spax.

Rear anti roll bar?

I am also thinking about special purpose-made rubber springs.

A few years ago I made some special rubber cones, thus have the tools and the technic/ruber grade etc.

Whats Your opinion about making about 10-15% higher rubber cones (slightly softer grade) to gain a bit more suspension travell?

You'll be pleased with them

Not really good on a rally car and not necessary if the suspension is set up correctly

Raise the car up about 1.5 to 2 cm above standard to gain a bit more suspension travel.
I find the original spec rubber cones from Mini Spares are excellent for rallying on both tarmac and gravel.

They are very rare. Everyone I know with an historic rally Mini uses the 4-syncro box with SC CR gears. It's not a problem with scrutineers here in the UK or on any events I've done in Europe.

I know this. Unfortunatly I have 2 sets of SC/CR gears for a 3syncro box.

I also have 4 cases, but neither is perfect. Two of them velded, one cracked at the diff case bolts and one with spun bearing seat+badly damaged idler gear thrust face.

Nothappy.

Don't suppose anyone knows where to get all these similar parts like the things in the boot and doors do you?

Hi guys,

Any updates on your projects?

Very interested in how you're doing as I'm just starting my own rally build...still tearing the car down to fix some rust but taking as many notes as possible as to what others have done. No sense reinventing the wheel as they say!

Thanks,

Pat

Welcome on board Pat!

Our car is developing well. Chassis painted, engine in, suspension under. Struggling with the limited interior space. If You have any particular question, just ask.

I use a rear anti-roll bar. Without pontificating too much, they just make it better. On road and off road.

Mine is 14mm and not pre-loaded.

In my opinion they make the mini handle "right".

I have a fully adjustable rally mini and all of the settings were so-so, but the rear ARB "made it".

You will be very pleased with it. Find an industrial estate and go and throw it around a corner very purposefully. You'll notice it does something very different to one with no ARB.

However, it will make any discrepancies in rear tracking very very apparent. It will rear steer a lot more if it's set anything other than dead ahead. I experimented with the smallest amount of rear tow out. It was quite alarming.

If you have rear tow in, when you go purposefully around a corner, you get a bit of a weave.

My whole reason for having one was so I could run my car with the wheels concentric in the arches and not have them binding up under (unusual) load.

I found the whole handling much better. Every front wheel drive car should have one and most certainly not a front ARB associated with mcwobble struts.
