A mad, bad Mini project
Discussion
It will be interesting to see what comes next. All the drive train is in, suspension, brakes, pedals, seats and the steering apart from the connection to the upright, which will obviously be the start of episode 11.
I wonder what Nick has got up his sleeve for the rest of the episode. Paint can't be far away now.

for people to lazy to go look on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob-FUF0Sh_E
Great series thanks for posting them on Youtube. Some fantastic fabrication skills too.
One small question though. Why go for the ST1185 engine, with it's archaic engine management it can be really difficult and expensive to get up to the sort of power levels you can get out the 205 for an ecu and boost hike.

It's not just engine management though. Can't remember the ins and outs now but running the 185 to any where near the 205 power outputs isn't easy. The turbos are different but that's easy to sort, It's the head and manifolds that are the big differences.
Fair enough, I know nothing about these engines, could a 205 engine bolt in place of a 185? Perhaps that is there end goal, might be worth asking them on their facebook page or under the youtube video, they seem to be pretty good at replying to comments.crossy67 said:

I am sure they will be running after market management, they sell an ECU on their website. Nik has already state the turbo and manifold will be changing to modern parts, mostly for packaging reasons. They started with the 185 though because Nik already had the car.
If I recall correctly it's the inlet manifold that was the most difficult to get around, on the 185 it had twin runners with a shutter valve (TVIS)on one runner, the much better designes 205 inlet won't bolt up. The turbo on the 185 is all finished quite early on where as the 205 one will give you 350bhp if set up correctly.
I was under the impression that the cars weren't so much chosen as they were simply kicking around their premises and of little value. The project being born from one of those idle conversations where someone says 'I wonder if that will fit in there?' and other person says 'well, there's only one way to find out...'?!
