Mini Cooper S 1.6 petrol 2001 issues..

hey guys n gals, just bought a mini cooper s 1.6 2001, passed the MOT, but i had another friend who's an MOT guy and he had a look, said the air con pipe has been cut?, i was like who or why would anybody cut it?, and also the rear drivers side when ever i go over bumps in the road it sounds like i've killed a gerbil.. no idea what that is, but its driving me INSANE. Also i put coolant in the coolant pot and the next day i have to put more in?, from reading on here its something to do with a thermostat or something?, also why is the fan to cool the engine down so LOUD?? if it was a supercharged beast i can understand but a 1.6 sports mini cooper?.. makes no sense.
Any advice would be appreciated as i have never owned a mini before. i bought it for a project, so i plan to renew any old parts that need doing, and give it some new health, its a brilliant car so far, just few issues. any advice would be great, thanks!!

The header tanks split at the join, get a new one from BMW

The fan might just be worn, it is 15 years old! Same wit the suspension noises

Low speed fan resistor shot. If you're handy with the soldering iron there's a guide online how to replace it (think it's on NAM), otherwise I think new fan shroud needed
