Cheers guys, I'm enjoying! She takes a while to warm up (I'm guessing that's due to the drilled thermostat?) but she's a good runner when she's going. Strong motor. Can't wait to rack up the miles and get her on the rolling road.

The speedo's abit out; by about 10mph! According to my clock I've not been above 20 yet wink

Just a photo to prove that I'm using and abusing her and clocking up the miles! Brakes are bedding in nicely as you can see wink

Speedo says i've covered 160miles, but im suspect as the speedo reads slow.

23/24mph is 30mph
30mph is 40mph

Tom, to finish it off you need the chrome-plastic trim strips along the sides and over those lovely Gp 2 arches. Heat gun and patience neede to do that!

I'm waiting for the hottest day of the summer! I've got some new chrome strip, ruined the other as used a heat gun and tried to make it fit! The arch doesn't sit flush with the seam at one side so doesn't quite fit.

A friend used to say, about those trim strips, buy 3 if you need 2 cause you'll probably b****r one up fitting them. A tip is to use a bit of Araldite around the area where the arch doesn't quite match to the flange, then file it back once it's hard and make an effective smooth transition from arch to flange.

I'm actually tempted to cut the trim, one strip per arch then a strip for the sill. Might look silly though, might try it with the old sill trim see how it looks.

With the Gp 2 arches it can be very difficult to get the flange of the arch to line up with the flange on the body. You just have to 'fettle' the interface area until it's OK. If you heat up the trim strip locally you can open it up to go over a slight mis-match and stick it in place with Araldite. I did one a while back and both sides went on like a dream. Then I did another and I used 3 pieces to get a result, and even then I was not too pleased with one side, although it looked sort-of OK. Even BMC used to struggle on the old works rally cars to get this right.

One thing I have seen done is, on the arches near (not to near)the ends drill a small hole and use a M2 bolt with washers to hold the trim in place.

Hey fellas

I haven't posted here in a short while, been busy in the North West section and also clocking up the miles. I believe I have now clocked circa 500miles and I'm due an oil/filter change, but would you believe the gearbox selection oil seal is leaking rather severely, having put 2 oil seals in to prevent this! Sods law.

I spoke to my local rolling road, they require I clock at least 1000miles before I stick the mini on the dyno, was rather pleased as he explained he started out on minis, its good to have someone in the know. Suggested I use (don't quote me here as I forgot what he said), but a BDG or BDK needle,(one is standard, but cant remember which now)and 8degrees something or other..

Good to be back, should be posting more often, just enjoying driving her as she is for now, no complaints thus far; just that its really slow! hehe

A recon gearbox I purchased also leaked from the input shaft, even after installing one of Minispares "leakproof" seals. The problem was that someone had previously been rather careless removing the old seal and had gouged out grooves in the seal housing, so the oil was leaking past the outer edge of the seal! Application of a little RTV (instant gasket) sealant cured the problem.

Recently, on the off chance, I pulled back the carpets to inspect the floors, I noticed it was slightly damp so dried everything out best I could and gave the floors a quick sand and respray with some rattle cans. Trying to keep on top of things best I can. However I have only done the drivers side thus far..

I forgot to take some photos of the surface rust and sand down, but here it is in primer and top coat;

Really? I adore your Mini, it must be near spot on 'cos nothing immediately stands out as being out of place - if you really need to do something maybe be totally anal and change the chrome bumber, door handles and window strips for black ones?

Bare in mind that sometimes you can do too much - as an artis you can ruin a picture trying to perfect it.....

Yeah, I have black bumpers in the garage, might give it a go. The black door handles would definitely work, as they would tie in with the stripe, I'll change the barrels at the same time. I'm thinking Cooper S drums, (spacered drums) for the rears to push the Yokohama's out a wee bit more too.
