You dont have to agree, but post 73 coopers just dont have the heritage. In the 90's it was just a car manufacturer jumping on the bandwagon to make some extra cash by calling them Coopers, the engines were no where near the sameas the originals or as quick as a true Cooper or Cooper S.
Ahhhhhh..... snobbery within the Mini community. So maybe straight out of the factory A 70's Cooper S with 75bhp would toast a modern 63bhp Cooper. However the Mini scene is as much about personalisation of your car as anything. I don't know many people that trundle around in a completely standard car. Long may it continue.I know plenty of modern Coopers with very respectable power outputs - and big mileages on them as well. And very few oil leaks too
Modern manufacturing techniques of many of the Mini's component parts has improved over its lifespan. Coupled with the development of the A+ unit (tighter tolerances and improved block and oilways) will ensure that plenty more of these 90's Cooper attain classic status in the future (if only the bodies were as good!). Stop clinging too the past waving your heritage certificates. You are in danger of joining the woolie bobble hat brigade
