Sounds like you are thinking of a mini that I believe was called the Hot Rod.

Special commission by rover along with a Limo mini I think. It was painted green and orange, had a JKD 16 valve motor and an alloy interior.

It was a special produced by Jack Knight for the 97 Motorshow in Earls Court. Oddly though painted in the BRM colour scheme, BRG and Orange bonnet stripes...

It was one of two to signify the launch of the Sports pack Mini option in its winter years.

Clarkson described driving it as 'Like being dropped off a cliff in a metal box'

The other one was made by JCG and was to show off the amount of gear you can fit in a Mini, £50K's worth to be exact!

Jack Knight is one of 2 companies which did 16V heads for the A series. The other was K.A.D. There are both superb, but there are now a few companies which produce a new front submfame designed to take engines like the 2.0L 16V Vauxhall uinit or a Honda VTEC unit.

Was it top gear? I recall a report from a motorshow, not a 100% though, the car was green, and memorable because clarkson had blood streaming down from his ears to illustrate how noisy it was.
