What size socket/spanner for steering joints......

was told its 1.5" but what size is it in MM ?

I think it's 37mm or 38mm. I'm not sure 'cause I have a bloody great cranked ring spanner in an old whitworth size which fits perfectly and I have never looked at the size markings. I guess in this case size matters!!

If its a late car with Disk brakes its 1in 5/16 which of the top of my head is 33.3mm?
