No on the website yet, don't think any numbers have been published - I assume torque will be limited by gearbox capacity.

Now you can have your 4.4 litre TDV8 made even more powerful and, especially, torquey

Thanks Trommel, does that mean they have finally "cracked" the ecu, or is it a piggy back. Will give them a call tomorrow regardless.
Just spoken to them, and they are awaiting some equipment? No figures as of yet but they said it should be well over 800nm torque!

Interesting - the gearbox is a ZF 8HP70 ("70" as in 700 Nm torque capacity).

They did not release figures, but they did expect it would exceed that of the 3.6. If it is limited by 700 then it hardly seems worth it.

The 4.4 TDV8 already makes 700 Nm as standard.

Getting confused now (and I bow to your superior knowledge)...

If the gearbox is only rated to 700nm, and it already produces 700nm, surely any remap will tear the gearbox to shreds?

You'd expect the rating to be a conservative, worst-case scenario thing (in the same way that a remap doesn't necessarily blow the engine to bits).

Something that's been rattling about my noggin since I first heard the fact that VW had to electronically limit their V10 TDi because the 'box wasn't up to taking the peak torque. We must be approaching physical limits now with these big diesels.

Also, I'm fairly certain that the current crop of cars with fly-by-wire throttles, ostensibly for enhanced functionality ("learns your driving style sir") and safety ("part of the traction control system") is actually an attempt to mitigage against peak torque delivery.

Virtually all modern diesels have limited torque - the torque curves are really torque straight lines.

There's no reason why you can't make a gearbox to cope within reason (look what the aftermarket does for US stuff) and there is a higher-capacity ZF 8HP gearbox.

Aren't those trucks quite a bit more hefty than a FFRR though? Just wondering about the size/weight limits on the 'box.

Just collected my 2012 TDV8, only done about 60 miles but its very nice smile Has 20" alloys which makes it a much smoother drive than my last with 22", Maybe a bit too smooth !

Better on 19" in my experience, and you have a fighting chance of not destroying your wheels off-tarmac too.

Just been to JE Engineering today and had my 4.4TDV8 remapped to 840nm torques. It is simply brilliant. Totally transformed the car and has made it feel so much more responsive than standard. It went like the clappers before and now it goes like the clappers with its pants on fire! Money very well spent. Thanks to the team up there-really nice people too. SS

Did they make any comment about the gearbox and the extra torque?

I take it that they have done a few now?

Had my 4.4 remapped at JE over a year ago and 25k miles. According to the computer it has done 31mpg over the last 10k mostly motorway miles. The extra torque is the main gain though. Pretty much paid for itself now.
