Certainly wouldn't suit yours.

The issue with the Classic is that, more than most cars, they look horrifically chav the moment you deviate from the standard spec for a car of a particular year.

Agreed

Here is mine exactly as i bought it last week, the bull bars in the skip and i shall get the 3 spokes re furbished as they look fine when they're in good condition

I think yours would look nice on 3 spokes with colour coded centers or
the 5 spokes on Krustys

That's a beauty and you've certainly made the right decision about the 'Romford parking sensors'.

Is it beluga?

Thanks but the pictures flatter it quite a lot, the paint is very flat and will need a great deal of mopping, the bonnet & lower tailgate have surface corrosion and need stripping and re painting.

Boot floor is rotten and corrosion in the front foot wells but on the plus side it looks pretty straight down both sides and the roof is dent free.

The interior is in very good condition and hardly a mark on it.

It will be going on the ramp this week to begin its restoration

Yes its Beluga smile

Good luck - that 'moment of truth' for all of us where we start to see how the inner structure has stood up......

Mine has a hideous 1980s glass pop up sunroof but I can't find a decent roof panel to replace it with so you're lucky to have a good roof.

The only 3 spokes that were available ex factory in 1983 were the dark grey 3 spokes that were standard on 'In Vogue' models and optional on any car that had option pack A and B. Mine does but I still think it looks better on the steel rostyles

I *think* they are disco wheels
I'll have to do some digging Charlie as I've always thought that they were original. In fact when I was going down the route of copying what Bish had done with his I bought some wheels from a dealer who said I should keep the wheels I have a they were pretty rare.....
Will have a look at the paperwork I have...

Actually the first In-Vogue's came on rostyles other than the demonstrator they sent to Vogue Magazine, the later four door models came with the 3-spokes. This was apparently related to a supply issue.

Krusty/Vixpy1 - Those alloys are the TWR alloy, part number STC8126. They were fitted to classics/defender and the discovery. They are one of the best looking classic wheels available in my opinion, if you can find a set they make a nice addition to a vehicle.

Cheers, i'm well happy that i've found the real thing, i thought i was on
a losing battle with this, they look in pretty decent condition too but i'll
be getting them freshly refurbished

I'll use the copies for now and through the winter and then fit the
originals when the projects finished

My first rangie came with these wolf race wheels

Excuse the sorry state of her......if just reclaimed her out of the sea after a 3m tide went right over her.
My LSE came with te ole 5 spokes which suit her well when she low but looks silly when she's in offroad height so I've put the wolf races on her

Thought I would resurrect this thread (in the spirit of Easter and all that biggrin).

I need to fit 17 or 18 inch wheels to the '72 project and the plan was always to go to Matt Lee (of Mach5 fame) to buy a set of his modern steel rims with original Rostyle centres welded in but he has shut up shop.

In the past I've spoken to Image Wheels regards a set of bespoke alloys paying homage to the Rostyle but I never got the impression they would be able to produce something sufficiently retro.

I've also spent a lot of time scouring the web looking for firms who are doing what Matt was doing but they are all about banding or using wider rims but the same diameter.

So, as a cheap interim to fit to the car to allow more time to find a final solution I've been looking at other wheels. So far the only ones I've found which are 17"8J (don't want to go wider, another issue with Land Rober wheels as the norm seems to be Carlos Fandango widths when you deviate away from 16") are these:

I think they actually look OK, especially if colour coded to the same grey as the bumpers etc?

The car is currently on a set of original 70s Wolfrace alloys which I do like but they are 15" and have the same problem as the 16s that there are no real fast road tyres available with a good enough speed and load rating and no scope for larger brakes to be fitted:

Also spent a lot of time looking and he was the only person doing it I found - surprising given that it's not hugely involved. Plenty of people doing it in the States, but having to go to those lengths seems a bit silly.

Have you looked at American Racing VN501s?

Thanks. They look very similar to the AR500 though and they don't have enough centre metal for the 5x165 bolt pattern needed. Plus, my fear with those was that the hub centre wouldn't be large enough to fit.

I started looking into this a few years ago and it was in my local that an old boy mentioned that all Rover wheels were copies of American muscle car wheels.

When I looked into this further I learned that Rostyle just licensed designs from US firms like MOPAR for their wheels and recreated them. The original wheel Rostyles were based on we're a Ford muscle car wheel and the AR500 is a recreation of that which is why the designs tally.

Yup, on the CSK, with the other suspension changes I've made it makes all the difference!

Ignore the fresh waxoyl dripping down the LPG tanks, I don't like this photo for that reason, but it shows the wheels off nicely.

I really must refurb the proper CSK alloys soon. I'd do it as a winter project but the GF would go spare if I plonked a wheel on the kitchen table and started rubbing it back!
Hey @pigfarmer3,

I love your set up on the RRC and want to mimick it on mine! Would you be able to send over the spec for your wheels, brand, tyres and suspension mods please?

Thanks mate and what a car!
