Thanks, I looked at that based on previous links but quite a lot older, higher mileage, not such a good engine spec or transmission spec. Essential to have stronger gearbox like latest Ashcroft internals, HP24, latest sprag clutch, stronger flexi plate etc plus stronger rear diff, in my opinion, in order to cope with the torque. LPG also desirable to make it affordable to run.
But, it is in what looks like a nice condition. Not sure if sold or not. I guess not if still on their web site, although it was on eBay for many months starting at £20k. A car is only worth what someone actually pays, and if not sold then still very uncertain.
One of these days I may get around to advertising mine, but it suits what I want and like in a car too much: stealth performance - pulls 1g acceleration at traffic lights! Loads of space, good tower, cheapish to run. So a bit hard to let go!

Seems wyay overpriced to me. As for the alleged money spent "restoring" it - well, i think someone has been bent over imo.

I take your point on the price, although despite having disliked the early Discoveries I now find a tidy early one a pleasing sight.

If the restoration were spot on, which I'm not convinced of, I don't think the value is too far off.

If you want something in good nick with classic looks and a bit of go there isn't a huge choice.

The blue manual one at kingsley cars has the camaro engine - my gold one had the Camaro engine as well - cast iron heads and hi-torque camshaft.

If the standard of their range rover restos is anything to go by then it will be lovely

Donkey apple took it for a test drive but because of his dodgy knee he found it hard work but said it was lovely.

If yours has aluminium heads then it is the corvette L98 tpi engine with a torque cam rather than a screamer.

Some photos please! Is she red by any chance?

When i took the decision to sacrifice mine for the defender build there was a bit of me that was sad - but when we lifted the body and saw the true state of the chassis(which looked fine from underneath!)and the floors I was glad I made the the decision I did.

I sent my gearbox back to Ashcroft - same spec as yours with addition of massive torque convertor - we had to make a special adaptor boss and plate as Overfinch only ever used the medium torque convertor - very naughty!
I used some new headers (from a chevy blazer) on the 90 - I still have the overfinch ones, which require a minor repair, if you want them as spares.
The rest of the exhaust has gone onto an LSE which lives in the channel islands.

It was in very nice shape when I was there as were all the restored ones. I had a quick blast around the block and it did go quite well and handled like it shouldn't!

It has to be said the Disco 1 is SUCH a useful vehicle - 7 seats, loads of space, quiet cruiser, superb brakes, fantastic in the winter, easy to work on, cheap parts.

Having stupdly sold my beautiful MINT jap import V8 with top-hat liners I am on the look out for a very low-mileage 300tdi ES Auto.

I saw one in birmingham with 33000 miles but the guy wanted 8 grand for it!

They are a great family car and dog's body runabout if you are able to do maintenance yourself. Not much can match them.

Yep Ali heads corvette TPI (tuned port injection) engine, as you say tuned for bigger low rev torque. I recorded 1g acceleration from a standstill in my disco!

Some pics attached for interest. The car is metallic green, epsom I think. A nice ordinary stealth colour for a stealth car.

The headers might be useful for spares in the future, are yours the same as in my pictures? How much do you want for them?

regards - Jon

hi Jon

your car is a lovely, lovely thing - I suspect as part of the upgrade it has a range rover front axle with vented discs and a Borg-Warner transfer box?
I see you have LPG fitted.
Our headers do in fact match - mine are not ceramic-coated and have a couple of easily-repairable pinholes in them - they would be great to have as a spare set in case yours ever need to come off - if you fancy bringing the old girl down to Derek Allfrey Landrovers in Kirdford, West Sussex one saturday morning we could have a bit of breakfast, talk landrovers etc and you can take them home with you.
Derek keeps chevy filters, plugs etc so if you needed a service he could do that as well!!!!(www.derekallfreylandrovers.com)
We would love to see the car.
Failing that you are welcome to them if you send a courier.
I also have the overfinch spare wheel cover as well which you can have.

Thanks, yes it has the vented front discs and the viscous coupled transfer box as used in the range rovers, good for grip in slippery conditions. I also recently put on a much stronger limited slip rear diff, the original only used the single pin/two pinion gear diff, which is too weak for anything bigger than the original 3.9 v8. Landrover used the two pin design on the 4.6 for that reason.

West Sussex is a bit of a trek, but thanks for the offer and thanks for the exhaust offer, very kind. My email is jon@lambx.co.uk if you email me your address I will check out couriers.

I also just found some of the original overfinch spec details for this car, which may be of general interest to anyone out there. It was enough to pursuade me to buy it from them 9 years ago.

very interesting Jon

the difference between the Ci and HSi would appear to be the bigger valves in the angled-plug ali heads and the roller lifters and rockers.

This L98 engine was standard in the performance versions of the Corvette C4 and also the Camaro IROC Z and Z28.

This accounts for the BHP differential between the two but not the torque so they must have had a custom-grind camshaft done to get those torque levels.

The great news is that your camshaft will never wear out - you may need to change the chain at about 100000 miles as these can get a bit slack.

I hear what you're saying about how much use a Discovery is, I've got a 1981 In Vogue 2 Door RRC waiting for a rebuild to replace my Disco. I'm still not convinced it's a good idea though.

Perhaps I should do a complete restoration on the Disco instead!
