This really is your final warning. No more antiquey-looking slightly beaten but still going strong Series pictures.

Latest job on mine, replacing the rear tub cappings....
Easier to support the roof than remove it completely!

yes Yes; Direnza silicone hoses and copper pipes, plus:

- EGR valve blanked
- Allisport performance intercooler
- Largest aluminium radiator possible
- Revotec electric fans

This is in addition to having basically everything underneath either refreshed, replaced or protected (suspension aside; that's getting upgraded when funds allow), the headlights are now "security protected" wink and fitted with LED sidelights, the zinc-plated and powder-coated rocksliders fitted in place of the OEM side steps, it has TerraFirma diff guards and a fresh MOT (no advisories!!!). There's undoubtedly some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head but it's now also ready for remap etc. tuning and a HD torque converter. My wallet's hiding!

I'd read elsewhere that lifting the roof and then removing the side panels was somewhat easier than a whole roof-off job.
Definitely agree. Granted I had access to the forks for the weekend, but even without them, doing one side at a time makes it a home drive way job as the side panels are a one-man lift, as opposed to the complete hardtop which usually takes three or four people purely because of its size. The other option I considered was a Hi Lift in the rear door aperture, but obviously this would've been a little precarious.
It also meant the wiring loom didn't get touched, nor the crucial windscreen/bulkhead seal.

What's that second skin on the roof for?

Looks too flimsy to be a roofrack so thinking it must be some sort of Shade options offered on African Spec LR's?

It's a Safari roof; as the name suggests it offers greater protection from the sun.

Its a Country "Safari" Roof - double skinned to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter (and prevent condensation forming on the inner roof panel).

Earl - fantastic looking County you have there! I dont know if you are aware, but that XWK...X registration marks it out as one of 2 batches of VERY early production models that were used both in motoring review press literature, and at the launch party for the model at Blenheim Palace in April 1982. I'd be very interested to see what the date of first registration is on yours.
XWK 743X and 740X are doppelgangers for yours that are known to have featured in period reviews.

How do I know all of this? Well, I am a complete of a Series 3 County nerd. I own XKV 415X, another known press review County but this time in bright red. XKV...X was the other of the aforementioned 2 batches, and from 410 to 423X was split between 88" 4-cylinders like ours, 109" Stage 1 V8 Countys, and the also newly-launched 109" Hi-capacity pickup.

Here is a picture of mine at play:

and when it was new:

And here might well be yours, but nobody knows for sure as this launch brochure was staged with a fake numberplate. Note, if you look closely, how the wheel centres have been manually coloured in. The plan was originally to have black centre trims to further distinguish the County from lesser models, but at the last minute this idea was pulled - after the photoshoot had already been done!

Whereabouts are you based please? I'd love to meet up, chat and have a mooch around yours as mine unfortunately has one or 2 tiny detail bits of interior trim missing that I've never been able to ascertain what they should be like!
Sadly mine isnt on the road at the minute, pending a rebuild around a new bulkhead frown

No pic from me I'm afraid.

Currently laid up after a motorbike accident, I think a Landy will be a good itch to scratch next.

I'm struggling to justify it to my wife, so any help there appreciated.

Lots of stunning examples in this thread, excellent stuff. Looked at the whole thread over 2 days. smile

Rehabilitation after your accident?
Investment potential of an early Series?

I know what you mean though - every time that CY88 posts another picture I find myself really wanting a Series 1. I've even joined the Series 1 club to check their classifieds hehe

The best I've come up with so far is that the kids will love it!

I'll have one soon, I just need to make my mind up which.

Keep the epic pictures coming.

You can't beat the romance of an S1! CY88s is lovely for sure.
