After a spot of machine polishing, not sure if I prefer the look this way or full of mud.

To be fair to the D3/4, they tend not to breakdown in the traditional old British car sense. IE. its overheated and you are stuck on the hard shoulder with a car thats un-driveable.

Whats more likely to happen is issues with air suspension where it tells you limited modes available and you can only drive at a maximum of 30mph. Worse case scenario is it drops to the bumps stops and you have a bumpy ride home.

Obviously there are lots of other things that can and will go wrong, but I've had a tough day and I can't be bothered to list them biggrin
Same for the l322 Range Rovers, well atleast my td6 one. Generally a height sensor snaps (made of plastic) and it doesnt want to raise its self till you fit a new one.

Are the disco 3/4 the body off job that the RRS is to do turbos?

Not really, they can be done without taking the body off.

Having said that, taking the body off is about 8 bolts and half a dozen electrical connectors.

Specialists have it down to about an hour from roll in to lift off.

It's a good excuse to renew all the suspension bushes and brake lines whilst it's off too.

The home mechanic can do a Turbo with the body on and its fine as long as all the bolts come off easily. If they don't then it can be a pig.

Garages will just whip the body off. My local LR indy says the mechanics are in competition as to who can do it the quickest. Think an hour and 20 was the record last time I looked biggrin

Poor photo but installed my overdrive yesterday, only took about 2 hours having gunked and pressure washed the box beforehand. Took it for a test drive around 10pm and it's absolutely fantastic!

We fixed a mates 02 TD6 L322s broken height sensor with blue tape and 4 cable ties. hehe

He drove it home from Helensburgh to Edinburgh, Then around Edinburgh for a week while he waited on the new part coming and his garage sorting it.

I was rather gutted when he took of the old one, I thought it was a fantastic repair.

Good stuff - is it new or did you take a chance on a second hand one?

I will admit I took a chance on a second hand one, it was relatively cheap considering the value of the things at the moment. The only downside was that it didn't come with the drive dog and bearing that bolts onto the shaft in the transfer box so I bought new of those, plus gaskets, bracket and the lever pivot bolt etc, which added about 80 quid onto the cost. Before I committed to handing over the readies I took the cover plate off to make sure it was clean and no obvious nasties inside, spinning it over by hand to feel for any rough spots. It might be an illusion but the oil seal in the front looks almost new.
So far it feels great, I've driven round in it all day with no issues. Whines on the overrun when it's engaged but I'm led to believe they all sound a bit like that. My plan was to do a few longer trips in it in the new year, possibly away to Wales for a bit of laning so at least now that's possible without revving the hell out of it

Mine screeched dreadfully when it first went in and needed a few hundred miles to bed in properly, after which it was pretty quiet.

Sounds like you have a good one!

Bit of a shed cosmetically, but drives superbly.

Happy Christmas one and all

Thanks.

Dived in at the deep end and did Cheshire to Somerset and back in it yesterday.

Really enjoyed it.

The later 4 speed set up makes that much more possible than the earlier cars.

Fantastic stuff, there's something weirdly enjoyable about doing a huge drive in an old car. All great, until it goes wrong biggrin
I've never actually driven a Classic, it's an itch I'd love to scratch, but not at the money they're going for these days!

Thought the Series looked just at home here yesterday
