Bit of an update on this.

Pleased to report that the car is now back on the road and driving brilliantly. The work completed has been done to an excellent standard.

Anyone who is based on the north west and is looking for a Landy indie please look up A1 Landrovers in Bury. Bearing in mind the car was dropped in their lap three weeks ago by someone who had never used them before their service has been exemplary and I cannot praise them more highly.

All in the costs are about £6.5k incl VAT. That is broken down as £3.6k for exchange engine, £750 for a re- furb turbo from turbo technics (they offer 2 year warranty on refurb and 1 year on new - go figure). Parts came to £480 + VAT (gaskets, fluids, belts, injector fitting kits etc) and labour of 24 hours at £55 p/h.

Now I have the long winded process of trying to claim the not inconsiderable expense back from the valet company......

Many thanks for all the advice, support & recommendations offered. All your input has been greatly appreciated. thumbup

I worked at one of these long stay car parks when I was at Uni, and I'd never use one where I had to hand over my keys.

Worst was night shift guy took a customers RS6 out for a joy ride, rattled it between a couple of trees. The managements response? To fire the guy and say the customer should phone the police, it was nothing to do with them any more.

But even just "normal" cars, would by default started stone cold and ragged, no care or mechanical sympathy for the most part.

I've always suspected this sotr of thing.

I used one at Heathrow T5 a while back - left a new A6 3.0tdi in their 'capable' hands - and the guy to a suspiciously long time to get to us on return. Whether he ragged it is neither here nor there, but employing a 'driver' who couldn't find his way to the right airport terminal from your base is, frankly, ste and not a service worth paying for.

No help to the OP now, but as a police officer who until recently worked at a major international airport, I used to catch the meet and greet drivers coming out of their compounds and absolutely ragging customers' cars. I used to pull them over, spell it out to them, then follow them to the customer and explain to the customer in front of the muppet driver what I had seen, including the redlining from cold.

Very satisfying and usually resulted in free parking for the customers, which is small beer compared to having to fork out for a new engine of course.
OP - best of luck with your claim. I hope it works out for you.

Hi All, my range rover 2.7 sports diesel was having suspension issues so we took it to our mechanic to take a look and got us to order a new one. We left the car at the garage for about a week whilst we waited for the suspension pump kit to arrive. It came in two days ago and upon sending it to the mechanic, he called back saying the engine was making some funny noise and suspects it wants to seize up. He checked the oil and said it looks like it hasn't been changed for a long time and he's afraid to continue any further on working on the car as it might seize on him and make him responsible. He then drained out the old oil and replaced it including the filter this afternoon but he says its still making that funny noise. I told him to leave it for about 24hrs and try after that. Can anyone advise as to what exactly or could be happening and the possible remedy please, many thanks.

The blatantly obvious answer would be to actually service your car properly and on time..

If you've really let it run low on oil. I would be checking your pockets for a possible new engine.
You should need about £3,500 or so.

£3.5k will just cover the recon engine. Then don't forget the anciliary stripping, body lifting and reinstall. 24 hours labour there.

No change out of £6k. I know only too painfully

Is there no record on the ECU of the way the engine was being run at the time?

Sounds like a nightmare op. Do the v6 hdi found in citroen c6 and pug 407 go straight in, or are they too different? Reqson i ask is i have been offered a rough bodied one with about 75k and histoy for a couple of gramd, obv it in a car and running, might be worth more to land rover boys, or at lease easier to sell , as i cba getting paint sorted.....

Alas no, they're not that advanced apparently. A year on the parking company are maintaining their "we parked it, came back a week later and it wouldn't start" line.

We go to trial on 3rd November. Can't help but think even if I do win we're only at the start of trying to get cash out of them.

Wasn't a valet company based at Ringway was it?

A previous Sport of mine was severely dented whilst in their care.

Sadly no result yet. The wheels of justice in Bolton County Court grind slowly. Waited from 9.30 through to 1.50 only to be told by the judge that they had no time to hear the case.

Back on 12th December......

No update on outcome folks. Hearing was adjourned at request of defendant as they were ill. Re listed for early feb (11th I think without looking at the diary).

Thanks for the support. Will update after the trial thumbup

This makes interesting viewing, although in the US not here, similarities are easy to see.

Hi folks. Update on this.

Case went to small claims trial today. After a 3 hour hearing judge found in our favour and entered judgement for the full amount of our claim, court fees and interest.

Without wishing to sound pessimistic it remains to be seen whether we ever see the money, albeit the judgement has vindicated our position.

Thanks all for your support and advice over the last 19 months.
