Evoque - ageing badly????
Discussion
When they first came out I loved them. Problem is too many if them are on the road which to me has diluted the look. Over the last month I have started to think they have really aged badly; the front still looks good but the side and rear profiles look really odd and oout of date - way too cluttered for a start.
I know it has always been a marmite car but does anyone's think they look a bit old fashioned?

It hasn't occurred to me that they look old fashioned, but they are overly prolific and may be developing an image problem.I know it has always been a marmite car but does anyone's think they look a bit old fashioned?
I think JLR have gone down the BMW route and are creating niches where none exists....
If you want a Range Rover, get a Range Rover.
If you want a smaller Range Rover get a RRS (yeah I know it's not really smaller......)
If you want a smaller RRS get a top spec Freebie.
If you want to split hairs and want smaller than a RRS but bigger than a Freebie, get an Evoque.
They could easily drop it from the line up and I'm not sure anyone would miss it, or indeed even notice.

Honestly no. But then I tend to think that people who worry about if a car looks dated or not, probably doesn't have anything better to worry about.I know it has always been a marmite car but does anyone's think they look a bit old fashioned?

Umm.. Difficult to know where to start. If you want a Range Rover, get a Range Rover.

It's the best selling car in the range.
Nearly everyone that buys it has not owned or in many cases ever considered a LR product before. It's possibly the most effective conquest vehicle that LR have ever produced.

Possibly the least informed comment I've ever seen on PH!I'm a massive fan of the LR brand but I do think the OP is on to something. Not sure exactly what - but I commented on this elsewhere a little while back. After the initial "shock and awe" the Evoque's initially-bright star seemed to me to fade quite quickly.
I'm not sure what and why that is though.

Possibly the least informed comment I've ever seen on PH!The original question was does it look dated and in my view it does. It looks too similar to the Freelander certain angles and a RRS from other angles, hence my comment that it could be dropped and no one would notice. It doesn't stand out enough.
Sure it' selling well, but is that because it's so very different or is it just because it's "the" Land Rover to have right now?

I agree with OP.
I think the proper RR and the new Sport are fantastic things though.
I think people might like the new version Freelander when it comes out.

I do see where you're coming from with all of this but I have divided opinions.Sure it' selling well, but is that because it's so very different or is it just because it's "the" Land Rover to have right now?
As 'Landy Enthusiasts', we aren't the target market so it's irrelevant if we think there's a place for it or not. However, it is still selling by the bucket load, so it must float someone’s boat!
The point about looking like the Freelander/RRS... Well, there's a reason for that. Range Rover is now a range/family, so there is going to be a 'family' look & feel across the range (same as with Porsche, MB, Audi, blah, blah...).

I think the Evoque hits the spot for people who want a more car like driving experience.
Can punt one with the wossname trick suspension down my local test track road quicker than would dare with any of the other products, either due to the vehicle capability or just sheer bulk. It's quite a narrow winding road known locally as The Switchback to give some idea of character.
Not sure where the comment about smaller than a RRS but bigger than a Freelander comes from. Inside and luggage space is distinctly less than a FL2. Also what's this Freebie bks. what a tt!
The FL2 is almost the same size as the original RR and is still about rght for me.
The Evoque imo will get people into the brand and maybe they will then next go for RRS or maybe FL3. Not that it will actually be called FL3 aiui.
