Having trouble with a dealer I placed deposit with so going to look for another car while a try and get a refund.

Can anyone recommend a Land Rover salesman who they have a good experience with?

Many Thanks,

Cal

Depends where you are, for me Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield has always been a good dealer, had four Range Rovers through them.

Best salesman I have ever dealt with (any marque) is Kevin Holmes at Marshall's Melton Mowbray. He deals with and has a lot of repeat customers from London and SE who just can't bear dealing with their local dealers. He is keen, totally on the ball, knows his products inside out, does wheat he says he will do and is pleasure to deal with...really good guy.

The salesmen aren't the problem, it's the rest of the Land Rover experience that is terminally disappointing.

Thanks chaps for the useful information.

I finally bought and collected the car today from Guy Salmon Ascot, didn't like the way they sold the car or the prep on the car but car is on my drive now.

Will post pics soon.

More often than not, like watching Jeremy Kyle and coming away feeling as though you're dumber by having wasted any time with it, contact with motor dealers can, on occasion, have the capacity to make you feel worse than it ought.

This was the way, my Defender was presented:

TBH, quite unexpected, but a very nice touch.

Thats such a nice touch and doesn't cost them anything. Will do write up soon but think if my dealer could have charged me for his time and the pen I signed the invoice with he would of.

Totally unexpected and, as you say, cost them nothing in the scale of a normal, thorough vehicle handover.

TBH, all the sales guys were quite taken with the car and had genuine interest in it. I;d bought the wheels myself, but the dealer fitted them for us FOC and they wanted to know all about them. From what I gather, alongside all the good, honest bread & butter defenders they sell, they get a fair few 'projects' like this, often they;re 2nd or 3rd cars for wealthy owners, so I guess they know how to do these things right.

well you have obviously never met Steve Vickers?

I took my 2005 4.4 V8 with official Land Rover facelift and thousands in genuine upgrades for an MOT

whilst waiting he approach me as having seen the car he wanted to buy it - lets be right, he approached me, I was not looking at cars but reading a book

spent ages getting details

said what did I want for the car - I said not for sale but I want a 5.0l supercharged in any colour apart from black/white and with ivory interior and wood not piano black

he told me he had access to all cars in the UK - so told him to ring me - heard nothing and I did say it would be cash!!

when the L405 was released I asked for a test drive in a 5.0l supercharged - just got told no cars available!

not a dealer I'd recommend

in fact I'm so pissed off with Land Rover dealerships i'll probably buy a Porsche Cayenne next - cutting my nose to spite my face but I'm fed up with st Land Rover service/attitudes

a friend in the trade did tell me they want business/lease clients - private individuals being seen as a pain in the arse?

Gordon Lamb stuff
Well I'm a private client and they were very happy to sell me a new 4.4 Autobiography RR last year. I ordered before there were any to drive but as soon as they had one they were in touch to let me play with it. There was an issue on delivery because although LR had a full range of paints available to order they weren't building with them all to start with. But they kept me up to date, I can't really fault them.

The previous one was an Autobiography Black that came from another dealer - limited edition so I just jumped on one that became available but Gordon Lamb had no issue servicing it and got me some things done on warranty where frankly it never occurred to me that warranty might apply.

So my experience of them has been very good, I don't know anyone there called Steve Vickers though.

glad it worked for you

but they like people like you who order before ever driving the car?

I'd got £100k without finance and they have still not got me a test drive in a supercharged L405 - wft not?

what I will say in favour of Gordon Lamb is the excellent service provided by Brain Lyne the service manager who tries his best to help owners but often is frustrated by incompetent parts dept and sales staff upon who he has little control
