Car is a black 2012 5 door SD4 Dynamic with as far as I am aware most options; the dealer said it was one of the highest spec they had come across. Only thing I wish it had is the blind spot monitor and this is not available as a retrofit.

As many of you will recall I had a shameful purchasing experience which has now been resolved. Although Land Rover customer service was the worst I had ever experienced I am trying to be positive now and enjoy the car. I have now 10 months to research who is a good dealer in London before the service. Hopefully Lookers Park Royal as they are very close.

Having done 600 miles since purchase I thought would do a quick write up. In terms of 4x4’s my only comparison would be my previous Cayenne S, this is mainly used by my other half as her daily.

On the plus side I like the look of the car and seems to get a positive reaction although compared to the Cayenne not many other drivers give it way? The size means it is very manoeuvrable in town going over speed bumps easily, parking is no problem and have never used the reverse camera although it was mentioned as a must have, just have to be careful with 20 inch wheels as they prone to kerbing but look Stella in Diamond Cut finish. Inside it’s almost spacious as the Cayenne and when panoramic roof open it really feels and looks the business(shame it doesn’t open)

The steering feel is just about right and inspires confidence no doubt assisted by the thickness of the actual wheel, the adjustable suspension seems to handle all you throw at it however the air suspension in the Cayenne is much better in sport mode with no roll and keeps the car composed and planted at all speeds.

The engine is a little noisy from the outside, I’m not a fan of diesel and had been looking for a petrol version but very hard to find one with spec we wanted. The engine has strong torque from low speed but not much happening after that, the car is returning an average of 27mpg which compared to the Cayenne is impressive as that was only doing 14mpg.

The build quality and material is generally good love the material around the dash, but again Porsche is still better in this respect, time will tell. The glove compartment lid and the lever for the bonnet feel a bit flimsy. The meridian sound system is on par with the Bose in the Porsche and no complaints there.

All in all happy that we chose this as our second car as it fulfils all our requirements, the Cayenne was a bit cumbersome in town mainly due to its size. Next month should be doing the Land Rover Experience which I am looking forward to seeing what it can do off road and will take some pics then.

Cheers,

Cal

Interesting, thanks.

I've got one on order, but do have a few niggling uncertainties at the back of my mind. Fast enough? Big enough? Overpriced?

Hoping it will be big enough to be practical(ish) for the family, small enough to be ok in the city. Also thinking it will pleasant enough to drive that I can have a bit of a play the, nowadays very rare, chances I get.

Think it should be a big step up in looks/luxury from the Golf.

Sounds like your experience would indicate this is possible?

Hi Sevo congrats on your purchase! You won't be disappointed it will meet all your expectations. It's a nice drive but not very fast although it does everything you need and tbh is not the type of car you want to hoon in.

Not looking to hoon, just enjoying driving. The Tiguan we have is a perfectly acceptable white good car, it does what we need, there is little pleasure in driving it though. I've switched my order from Prestige to Dynamic largely because of the dynamic suspension mode (although the fact it looks a bit more masculine helps!).

Owners do seem broadly positive which is reassuring. I can't help but endlessly debate it in my head though, I've been burnt by the golf. I bought that as a sensible purchase after a lot of consideration, supposed to be reasonably cheap fun. I've never really bonded and it annoys me every day, I really don't want to make that mistake again. Previously bought cars more as a heart/impulse decision and been happier.

Realistically performance cars are pointless at the moment (3yo daughter and one on the way, 99% of my driving is to and from work or with child and wife onboard), this should provide pleasurable driving in other ways, and I love the look of them. But should I just buy a cheap car to trundle about in and give up on cars for a bit? Agh!

I've had my Evoque for 2.5 years and it's great. I have the petrol coupe dynamic and it's a reasonably brisk drive. The diesels do run out of puff. I've had a build quality niggle which Loookers Park Royal have failed to fix after two attempts and they don't care over much.

Coupe looks great but is a no-no if you have kids, fine for occasional rear use and reasonably flexible users. Don't under-estimate the benefit of the adaptive damping, makes for a very refined cruise on the motorway and agile progress on the twisties. It's no sports car though and rolls alarmingly when pushed.

Trading mine for an RRS when LR can be bothered to make one for me or, failing that, a Macan turbo. In the end, great though the Evoque is, I need more performance for, especially, safer overtaking on A roads.

I have a Dynamic Lux SD4 on order and will be taking delivery in about 3 weeks. Really looking forward to it. When I took the test drive I was impressed with the ride and handling for the kind of car that it is....I already loved the look of it....but didn't think I would like the "drive". I was wrong. Certainly not one to fling around ... but that's not what I'm getting it for. I was also impressed with the interior...definitely RR territory that they've targetted in terms of the look and feel inside.

I'm going from a Jag XF S so I'm sure I'll feel the "lack of power"...but to be honest...the number of times I get to stretch the legs of the Jag is limited to once every month or so...so no great loss in my book.

Can't wait.......
