It just leaves me to the conclusion they really are sh*t products aren't they but sadly they're the automotive equivalent to heroin.
Yes.I know how to sort it though: A new JLR rule that says the owner / victim gets to kick whoever's responsible for every stupid fault or failure in the privates.

Good thread.
Why am I still considering a four year old supercharged petrol one?
Because, despite all the evidence, the reports, surveys and owners. Why am I still considering a four year old supercharged petrol one?
You cling to the belief that yours will be different and won't be like the rest.
What a noise.
Am I mad?
Get it bought.
LR AUC but definitely having extra year of warranty.
Have also taken out some BP / Shell shares

I can now add injector seals to my list...
Fortunately I check my oil often and before any journeys over an hour so noticed it before any damage was caused. It happened on Friday morning when I went to the LRO International show in Peterborough so at least I was in the right place!

Bought from new 2008 LR Defender 110 with Utility Pack
New gearbox x 2 - Warranty
Bonnet cable broke on the first day - Warranty
Plastic clip failed within gearbox and it to be removed to install it - Warranty
50 million recalls - Warranty
Rear door rubbing on btm edge - Bodywork romoved straightened and reassembled .... it was in twist. They used a lorry jack to sort it - Warranty
Brake calipers corroded - Warranty
Clutch basically blew up at 78K (Shes had an easy life) £720.00
The biggest cockup though was from LR itself. When Licensing the early 110s with the utility pack for VED, they rated it to DVLA as a diesal car ... So £500 road tax a year, and DVLA will not alter it.

3 minor irritations:
Random alarms caused by tired bonnet open sensor - bypassed and then replaced.
Intermittent tailgate aggro caused by corroded release switch - complete new tailgate handle fitted.
Blocked washer jet - both replaced with better D4 parts, so expect them to work in the winter now, too.
Astonishingly my local dealer had all the bits in stock...
I need a new front fog light as one has corroded and misted up, and I think some new HID bulbs are in order, too - unless it's my eyes, of course.
Then it'll be time for some new front discs - and an upgrade to V8 spec ones.

Just got back from a 400 mile trip in "Restricted Performance" mode. Heavens knows why. The Land Rover Assist chap is coming out tonight sometime.
He's here now. Replaced a turbo boot, asked me to test drive it... and it's back in Restricted Performance mode again.

Cue LR telling me that the manifold is part of the exhaust and therefore a consumable item. Call me cynical.
Fuel filter failed on my 56 reg defender 90 on Sunday.....
I had just driven into town and was just turning it round to park, I thought somebody's had a bit of a leak.... On getting out I realised it was me and there was a trail of fluids down the road, with a pool underneath the car.
A quick investigation revealed diesel spraying from the fuel filter so, with my expert mechanical knowledge I guessed that was not normal, even for a LR....
On the positive side, I rang the RAC, had a call from the patrol to say he was on his way, gave him the part number, within an hour he had arrived, fitted the new fuel filter and we were back in business. Total cost, £14....
Great service, couldn't have been more pleasant, efficient or indeed better value....
Here's hoping the next breakdown is as easy to fix.....
