Up to yesterday: nothing except a flat battery which wasn't its fault.

Today: clutch frown

02 D2 107k, bought at 82k almost 3 years ago

New steering box at about 88k
An ACE joint loosened
Height sensor failed
New battery
Just had my first big bill for a seized handbrake cable, two suspension airbags, front ARB bushes and front propshaft.

What point?

D3s don't like crap batteries, or failing ones, same with alternators.
Bulbs can throw up some hissy fits and there are a few known wiring weak points.

A good Indy will have the tech to talk to it and see what's wrong. Hell, you can buy the IID tool for under £400 and do it yourself. hehe

However, I am glad it doesn't have a chassis that rots out while in warranty, or a bulkhead that does the same, or doors that rot apart, or has door seals that do anything but seal, or have to change the transfer box to make it quieter and better on fuel.
Or have to cut bulkheads and fit different seat rails to get comfy or drive with the window down for arm room. Or marks it's spot by leaking oil.

It's rather boring having a car that doesn't leak, doesn't rust and doesn't have to have spare uj joints brought along every time I take it off road... wink

There is nothing that can only be done by a main dealer, but there's a truckload that can't be done by a non-specialist independent.

Including an awful lot of diagnostic work.
I went to my local garage (non-specialist) first who usually does all our work but they didn't have access to the correct tools so referred me to the main dealer.

There are plenty of specialists in Derbyshire that could do this at a fraction of the rate of the main dealer.
Can you recommend one? I'm in Chesterfield

There's Cavendish at Hasland, not a recommendation though, I've never used them, mine goes to Gordon Lamb

Mine's booked in with Gordon Lamb for the aforementioned faults.

Jep, I would recommend getting the oil pump casing changed as well.
There is an issue with 07 ones cracking after the belts have been done and causing the tensioner bolt to sheer, and then you need a new engine..
hehe
Thanks..... I think irked ...... punch

My D2 needed a new MAF/gearbox/master clutch cylinder/fuel tank/rear sunroof seals in its 1st 3yrs, so I'm no stranger to LR reliability, but the damn things just get under your skin!

Dull. I use a fantastic guy down here in Somerset, but you don't want to flog all this way.

Wow. You go girlfriend.

My point, was that it's noticeable that nearly all of the issues listed with D3/4s relate to electronics/electrics.
Calm yourself down.

I am calm. It's called banter, you should try it some time. You might like it. hehe

Just pointing out some of the issues that it doesn't have, but other models seem to have suffered for decades..
wink

As for the oil pump. What would you rather have, prior warning to the issue and the chance to solve it.
Or find 5 grand down the sofa for a new engine and the most monumental bking from the wife... hehe

I was in a LR dealer a while ago examining a farmer-spec Defender 90. A salesman came over and said "Are you admiring the build quality?" I didn't know if he was being serious or taking the piss.

One day I WILL get all the bits in my 110 working at the same time!

wink

Indeed. Maybe I didn't put enough (any!) smilies in to show my gratitude and too many in that suggested sarcasm.

Sorry getmecoat

I knew deep down, you were glad of hearing it. biggrin

If you go to Disco3 and search for oil pump casing, you'll find more than enough stories about this issue to scare you.
When you get the belts done, get the pump changed, i know it will be a bit extra on the bill but you'll thank me for it. smile
