I went and viewed a land rover freelander td4 tonight and all was great with the car other than loud muffled buzzing noise coming from the rear driver side wheel arch. Can anyone help clear up what this might be for me please?

Seems I now have R-DOSSS (Random Deployment of Side-Step Syndrome).

I lock the car and sometime both steps retract, or just one step retracts, or one step retracts then deploys then retracts again, or I return to the car later and one (or more) steps have deployed.

There was a different problem with the steps when I took delivery (see previous posts) but this is a recent affliction.

Any ideas please chaps?

P.S. LR AUC warranty applies.

You have side steps? Is that part of the car or some extra thing someone's added?

Ahh, sorrr, that was kind of what I meant. I had one a while ago (it was horrible, too slow and kept bashing with it) but I thought since it wasn't fitted by LR dealer it wasn't a LR product - put I could easily be wrong, just an assumption.

I've got the deplorable side steps on mine.

I am not sure whether they look cool or like I've spent my Disability Living Allowance unwisely.

Yes.

I got them for nothing actually. The car was in the showroom with them on and I didn't want them, so they were given to me gratis. They are actually very good and my wife loves them, but I suspect they will it some point become unreliable.

You're not using your Land Rover properly if it's not got a little wear and tear! wink
My 2000 TD5 Disco:
- back axles
- radiator
- front fog light failed
- crank shaft pulley
- Rear pads
- And a partridge in a pear tree!

And that's only in the last few months!

Mine were already on the car too - but an almost £2K option...Jeez!

I do have a soft spot for them though - it's a little bit of Thunderbirds each time I use the car.

I have side steps on my Defender but I suspect not the same ones. I use mine for fending off trees and stuff.

Not my car but I was in my local main dealer tonight and the service lass was discussing a job she was sending through for approval, fairly new defender, ABS control module, £2600 + VAT + fitting. At that point I stopped eyeing up the demo defender in the showroom!

ABS is an option. You don't have to have it. In a Defender, the other car is your crumple zone.

I managed to bend my lower tailgate hinge on my D2 over Christmas, turning round in a hurry having failed to shut it. banghead Rimmer Bros got the part to me.next day and it was sorted that afternoon thankfully.

Boot latch actuator cable kaput. My fault, as I should've done a preemptive fix when I was changing the handle in the Autumn.

Fingers crossed I can get the trim off form inside the boot without damaging it.

Fingers lacerated when I do...

Bonnet open sensor just packed up on mine so I've bodged it with a paperclip across the connector.
