Hi

Never thought about this before but getting a bit paranoid now that the Daily Mail is reporting on the surge in thefts of defenders....

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best steering wheel lock to buy, the car is a 56 plate td5 90XS if that makes any difference. Halfords have this one

http://www.halfords.com/camping-car-seats/security...

probably at the discount end so are dearer ones any better, any feedback or recommendations much appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

I used to have a removable steering wheel. it was fantastic.

However you did look bit stupid walking around a supermarket with the wheel in your hand!

One morning I looked out of my window so see the truck had gone.

Went out side and found it about 50m down the road. CCTV showed a couple of people trying and failing to nick it.

No damage as I never locked it as it was a full tilt.

The thing with steering wheel locks is where the hell d'you put it when it's not doing its job? Bloody great hunk of metal lying around the car ready to clout yer head in the event of a collision or similar. fk that.
Nah.....floor mounted pedal lock. Folds flat on the floor when not in use and, crucially for several Kgs of stainless steel, it remains attached to the vehicle.

Second the x-eng pedal lock and also fit a mesh grille to the two small back windows either side of the back door. Then fit a tracker then even if they do take it you get to track them so they can have a day in court or hospital which ever you prefer.

Pedal lock is the way forward.

I know a few people who has gone as far as putting a tracker on theirs. Also master battery switches hidden away too.

Defenders have always been hot property for thieves as they can be stripped very quickly and on Ebay before you have even woken up and realized that someone has taken your pride and joy frown

Mate of mine has a tracker on his rather tatty 300TDi 110.
Went AWOL from Brizzul with the tracker spotting it heading to South Wales. Quick phone call to Plod and some deft ANPR work saw it (and the toerag who nicked it) penned it at the Severn Bridge tolls.

I would completely stay away from the steering wheel locks where the whole steering wheel is not covered. In my opinion a Disklok is your best bet and this is what I am going for soon (size large I think) when I get my Defender. Some people slate them saying there is no where to put them and they just clang around in the back, but you can get cases or just improvise to stop this.
