Hi...I have just been advised by LR main dealer (during a routine 10K service on wifes 2010 Freelander 2 with 50K miles on the clock) that the rear main oil seal is leaking and it requires the gearbox out to fix at a cost of £650 + vat eek to fix (+ they reckon the rear discs & pads need replacing at a cost of over £350 + vat too).

Three questions...is this oil seal failure a common problem on the Freelander 2 (auto).....is the price quoted for repair excessive....and if so, is there a good independent in Yorkshire anyone can recommend?

I have just had mine done on my 12 plate, also turbo inlet oil seal failed as well, both covered on warrenty, looks like a common fault.
I know its of no use to you but my local dealer (Guy Salmon Northampton) were excelent
