I received that in an email from Land Rover yesterday, I found it pretty pointless despite the marketing emails suggestion that video would show me "how the new Discovery Sport is like no other, taking possibility out of its comfort zone".http://youtu.be/Irl6KPRYBVA
A jet fighter helmet, a look at the moon through the sunroof, a flying key, a blurry image of the instrument binnacle, rear seats that slide and recline, a plain black speaker grille.
If I was sitting with a deposit wondering if I should put one down I can't say it convinced me to rush to my dealer.
Looking forward to its reveal, having run a FL2 before the E estate I feel the need to get into something like this again. Understand it might be launched with the old 2.2 transit lump from the Evoque, as the new ingenium engines might not be ready in time. If it is I will wait for the new lump....

Evoque (and FL2) used the 2.2 diesel developed from the Ford/PSA unit, the Transit engine used in the Defender is the completely different Puma unit.HarryW said:

Oh, I don't disagree with the fact its an old design, but its pretty reliable on the whole from what I can gather.The new range of engines is rumoured to be launched with a smaller 2.0 turbo diesel, which in a bigger bodied, 7 seat Discovery Sport isn't appealing to me, but I guess its all about chasing the headline 'official' mpg figures and low tax brackets these days.

The discovery sport is the freelander replacement, so I'm not sure if it's going to have seven seats from launch. The car that was shown earlier in the year was the vision which is rumoured to be the discovery 5.
If LR launch the car with the outgoing 2.2 only to put the hot fire engines 6 months later, that will really screw up the early sales and the future residuals for the 2.2

The existing engine is made by Ford and is a long way behind what is current. I cannot imagine why the new car is being launched without the new engines except of course that Wolverhampton is late. The new engines should be much more economical and those buying the new car with the old engine will pay dearly come resale time.

I know I'm probably just probably fearful of new technology but surely a 250bhp 2.0 diesel is going to be very highly stressed with high boost/injector pressure, affecting long term reliability? I keep hearing of how BMW diesels are class leading in terms of BHP/litre and mpg, but that many parts are basically consumables and turbos at 60k miles are not uncommon - will these engines go the same way?
Does anyone know if a 6 cylinder diesel is planned for the new car?

I wouldn't have thought so, in the same way you can't get a D4 with the TDV8 or an FL2 with the TDV6 as it blurs the lines between the model lines and makes the engine choice an obvious upselling point.I fancy another Land Rover. The evoque is too small and the Freelander is a bit old now. For £25k I might get one on order!

I can't see it launching with the PSA engine - the Jaguar XE is due at pretty much the same time and it's definitely arriving with the Ingenium engines. I would also think the days of the Ford petrol and the same PSA diesel in the Evoque are numbered.
I'm quite excited by the prospect of this new Discovery Sport - I wonder how much more capable off-road than the Freelander 2 it will be? The Discovery name would suggest it should move the game on quite significantly.
Does anyone know when the new Discovery proper is due? 18 months or so I guess?
