You have given a fountain of useful info to go on there!! wink

Mate of mine does 80k miles a year in one and says it is costing him more than hos old 1.9tdi A4.

Another friend has gone from a FF Supercharged RR and reckons it is cheap as chips.

I can get 20mpg from my 4.2SC but likewise I can get <10mpg from it too. If it goes wrong then it can cost a bit to fix but mine hasn't gone wrong so I've not had any large repairs done.

Discs and pads are reasonable as is routine servicing. Remember these cars were £60k when new so they will always have the costs associated with an expensive car.

depends ....I get around 300miles out of a £90 ish fill up

tyres are lasting 30-40K miles ....discs n pads about 20-30K miles

obviously depends if you spend your life on the motorway or try to drive it like a hot hatch on b roads wink

servicing £250-350 every year at indy

not bad for a £60-70k luxury car that weighs 2.5 ton

Is this going to be a weekly update to get all the facts?? laugh

What year are you looking at?

How many miles a year you going to do in it?

Will you buy main dealer with warranty?

If you're buying a pre 2007 one and doing 40,000 miles a year it will be pretty pricey, post 2007 may give fewer niggles but cost the same to fuel, post 2010 pretty solid but simlar running costs, post 2011 you will get the 8 speed auto and may bump your average mpg up from around 12-14 to maybe 16-17.

If you are only doing 5000 miles a year the difference between your M3, Toureg and X5, I still don't fking know as you don't even say what year or engine any of them are.

The guy next door has a new 25d X5 and is averaging 35, he replaced his old 4.8i that was seeing 18mpg.

What M3?
E46 which can see 25mpg no problem or the V8 that is more like 19mpg?

I do take it you are talking about a Range Rover Sport V8??

Not a RRS TDV8?

One is 14mpg and the other is 26mpg. Big difference.

Assuming you're talking S/C V8, I've had three. The first was a 4.2 L, and I am now on my second 5.0 L. The 4.2 (2006) averaged 16 - 17 mpg, the 5.0 L averages 18 mpg and can exceed 25 mpg if driven carefully.

As for running costs, I did 90k miles in the 4.2 over 5 years. Other than servicing (circa £450 p.a.) and tyres (£225 each) major expense included:

2011 - ARC front bar stabiliser £1358
2011 - Ride height sensor replaced £313
2011 - Ride height sensor fixed (see above!) £216
2011 - Tail gate latch £180
2010 - Font and rear brake pads £462
2009 - Radiator £673

The other major work (new front diff, engine oil leak) were done under warranty.
