I'm interested in one of these. Does anyone have any experience of owning one? If yes, could you share what they're like to live with?

Do you mean a Stage 1 V8 Land Rover - i.e. the last of the line 109" before the 110?

If so then it's a Series 3 with a ropey old carb fed 3.5 V8 there so expect mid teens MPG

Good fun if you like that sort of thing, mechanically they are just the same as any other Series LR so watch for Rust, Rust & more Rust!

LT85 gearbox IIRC?

Yes it's the cross over from series to defender. So leaf springs and permanent 4wd.
I love the styling of the actual series 3, but the 6 cylinder model is few and far between.

I have one. I bought it as a pile of bits and rebuilt it into a useable and quite tidy ute over the course of a few years.

Mine is a 3.5 v8 running on a 350 holley

Gearbox is the LT95, which is best described as crude, but it seems quite robust.

There are some unique bits to the Stage 1, that no other series had.

Double cardan front prop
permenant 4wd
lt95
front cvs
different steering set up with a different steering idler
different front swivel housings, and outers I believe

They are getting quite rare now.

Here is mine:

It now also has seats out of a Puma Defender in it.

Could do with another repaint really now as the Australian Sun has done some damage over the last 4 or so years

Yes you can remove baffles in the carb for more power?
It would be a toy so mpg not really a worry.
I know rust on the series tend to be bad but i think the chassis is good; the bulkhead defo is.

I rebuilt one onto a new chassis a few years ago and sold it unfortunately. There are some quite rare bits like the transmission tunnel, front grill etc but as has been said basically a long wheelbase rangrover running gear on leafs series 3....
