Hi after much deliberation I bought a Defender..I just tried to insure it and since they are very nickable was perturbed to hear it would not be covered for theft without an immobiliser..??? what counts as an immobiliser ..does it have to be electronic ...freaks me out some local boy playing with me wires!

A 04 Defender "should" have a factory fitted Thatcham approved alarm/immobiliser. My MY2000 has one as standard.
And yes, they are very nickable but an immobiliser will have little effect as most thefts are trailered away and broken for spares or containered up and shipped out.
A mechanical lock is the way forward be it steering wheel or pedals.

Sorry, I know I'll sound like a bore and a bit off topic but I don't understand the UK obsession with insuring everything based on being the cheapest.

I don't buy the cheapest bread/beans/wine, because I know they'll probably be st.

If your insurer is already playing the 'it isn't covered if' card, make sure you read the policy documentation very very carefully.

Adrian Flux may or may not have been the insurer who paid out on a claim against me without actually checking with me if I'd been involved in a collision.
They then may or may not have backdated my premium for the entire year.
Cheap, for a reason.

Like I said in the very first reply, my truck is four years older than yours and it has one, which suggests yours should have one.

Well if that's your attitude I hope the fker gets nicked.
A**** F*** are ste, and although it may require "deep" pockets to shop elsewhere, it's not nearly as deep as the pockets you'll need when you try to make a claim and discover F*** have decided you're not quite as covered as you thought you were after all (which seems to be a common complaint against them)
If you're genuinely worried about it getting nicked, bargain basement insurance really isn't the way to go. You need good cover, not cheap cover.

No, she doesn't. She also doesn't know about the very easy way to defeat the immobiliser that every tea leaf knows about, nor the equally easy modification that even an idiot like you could carry out to make said immobiliser genuinely impenetrable.
Toodle pip.

I dont. I need all my insurance policies to be those I can rely on to pay out when I need them, its easier to pay higher monthly premiums for good cover, therefore spreading the cost, rather than forking out from my own pocket when my insurer doesnt pay out - been there, done that.

As for shopping advice, I own a Land Rover, Im probably not qualified to offer that service.

Fully agree..however I too own a LR and I bought my insurance from AF and Blackwater does state age over 50! so guessing he / she has plenty of experience buying insurance...I just joined this site because I have a whole load of questions...but to be honest being slagged off for purchasing your insurance from a company that actually advertises on this website seems a tad harsh...looking for help not smartarse replies (Crossflow person!).

Just because AF advertise on here doesn't make them the best. It simply means they can afford the fees.
Sorry if that's a bit too smart-arse for you.

Welcome to the forum - it is quite a friendly place but one or two posters are argumentative idiots and the manner that they post unnecessary - just ignore them.

Wowee. I take it all back, I am sorry.
Adrian Flux are ace.

Can't quite believe that not subscribing to the Cheapst-is-best theory when it comes to insurance is enough to mark someone out as a smartarse by someone with a whopping two posts to their name (heaven forbid they ever end up in The Lounge)
If anyone's being sharp-tongued it's the OP, who spectacularly missed the answer to his original enquiry, then went on to bad mouth those who, quite rightly, questioned his choice of insurer.
