Your cringe-worthy, never-ending spouting of the corporate line seems very much the behaviour of a toadying bellend. Keep kissing the stty arse of the American Dream.
How I earn my money is irrelevant and none of your business. My opinion of car salesmen is based on first-hand experience and this thread clearly demonstrates that I'm not alone.

I suspect you work with Devalink at the Carphone Warehouse and your experience is confined to the "sub prime" end of the car supermarket trade..........
come on guys please play nicely
I think its pretty widely accepted that most Range Rover sales people in the UK are not really very knowledgeable about the cars and rely on the cars to 'sell themselves'?
I know people in other fields who work in sales and they are really under pressure/stress to sell in very competitive markets - Range Rovers are in a class of their own and have no real competitors hence the attitude found in many dealerships
a director at one dealership admitted it annoyed him that his sales team did not have to 'work' to earn their commission etc - customers just come to them wanting to spend money!

I'd say your big mistake is saying you'll be paying cash and have no p/x.
Two problems:
1) Even if you don't ask upfront, they know the next thing you'll ask is "how much discount?"
2) They make a lot of money from selling finance and other add-ons (GAP etc). Indeed they could well be targeted on selling those products to the extent that a cash buyer costs them money.
The best way to open discussion is to ask how much a month it would be. Don't forget to say "mate" quite a lot.

during my searches I'm amazed that front fog lights are an extra on all models apart from the Autobiography?
they were standard on the L322
in my 2013 brochure they are £140 extra - but can they be retro fitted - ie does the bumper have the necessary 'cut outs'?
seems crazy that on an £80K plus car you have to pay for front fog lights?

Here we go again
Of course a manufacturer invests £1.5 Billion in developing some of the best cars of their type in the world but doesn't bother training it's front line staff because "the cars will sell themselves" - makes perfect sense.
BTW - Reversing camera is standard on all 405 (UK market anyway).

Ive heard mixed reviews in regards to the Marshall group, sound the Salesman out on the phone. One worth his salt will qualify you properly, and then deal with you appropriatly. Don't go asking for cash discount etc.
Ask in regards to the vehicle, any additional details you need, and then talk the deal.

Mines nara, love the colour and its ivory inside which provides a nice contrast (although a bugger to keep clean!)
If you think £140 for fog lights is bad its £30 for an extra large washer bottle!
bloody hell - £30 for a larger washer bottle is taking the pish - why not simply supply a large bottle? If you think £140 for fog lights is bad its £30 for an extra large washer bottle!
my current car is Ivory and despite shooting/fishing 5/6 days per week I keep clean simply by putting anything dirty in the boot liner - lol!
now if you have kids I can see a problem
I've put a deposit on the car and will view next week but I get good 'vibes'
well I thought 'old fashioned customer service' had gone
imagine my surprise when Martin from Marshall's Cambridge offered to bring the car to me next Friday - that's service (few hundred miles round trip)
well done to Martin and Marshall's Cambridge

quick update
have viewed and driven the car today
bought subject to sorting out a few extra's being supplied
excellent service from Martin at Marshall's - happy to allow a full and proper test drive and allow paintwork inspection by my 'detailer'
compared with my L322 - its in a new league, which it should be given its a new car VS a nine year old car
the engine is refined and fast
but its more the ride and handling that impressed me most - I'm not exactly a slow driver but bends I took at say 30mph in the L322 I could take at 45mph in the L405 with no body roll
lots of nice 'toys' but particularly like the power tailgate
sadly no preheat which for me was superb - going out at 5am in the winter I simply pressed the remote and twenty minutes later I got a fully de-iced and warm car
not a deal breaker as where I live I can safely start the car and allow it to warm up at home
