After a few weeks of weird squeeking noises from the engine, my dad decided to get his discovery checked out. Now, apparently he needs the crankshaft pulley replacing which has been priced at around £350 - this seems a little extortionate to me but I'm no expert. Thought I'd check your opinions first?

Which model of Disco, what year & which engine?
And is the quote from a general garage, an indy specialist or a franchised dealer?

It seems a bit strange that crank pulley would squeak, more likely a bearing on another pulley.

Or the belts or the pulleys.
Well known issue on some Discos & cured by the penny trick. Which is why we need the info.

Known issues with the TD5 crank pulley.
Have a look at this:
http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=72383
and this is the link mentioned in that one to another very good Disco2 'how to' site:
http://www.discovery2.co.uk/CrankPulley.html
and yes, they are eyewateringly expensive.
