Quick query, if I fit a new pair of tyres to one end of my Defender, same pattern as the other end but the other end has tyres which are around half-worn, I guess the centre diff will pick up the small difference in circumference - but is this a big deal? Will the Landie cope ok with this or is it a time-bomb for going bang?

The difference in diameter and therefore rolling circumference will be miniscule.
There's more backlash in the gearbox/transfer box.

No problem in a defender or disco 1&2
Not good in a Freelander.

The general consensus on Freelander forums is - not good on original Freelander, fine on FL2 but best to replace in 'axle pairs' and put good tyres to the rear.
