Hi all,

Going to look at a few Evoque's today for my OH's mother.

Is there any decent buying guides / is there anything I should know?

I've read the what car review but what if like to know is common faults? What to check in the SH has been done?

She's sent me links to a couple and they all seem to be the top spec oil burners, 2.2 SD4 Dynamic Lux. Is that the one to get?

It'll be second hand, up to £35k so the one she wants to look at first is on a 61 plate. I'm guessing the LR warranty will be over?

Any helps or links I'll be really grateful for.

Is it a high spec one you're looking for? The wife's was £32.5k new (got £1.5k discount), it was cheaper to order a new one than to buy used. She's got the Pure Tech though, not many extras, it took 3 months from order to delivery. I'm quite impressed with it though, my only complaint is its awkward to get the seatbelt clipped in in the front, but I've got a fat arse!

We've come away and she's got a few options.

A new one but they're saying its 7-9 months!

They have 2 nice second hand ones which are top spec, Dynamic Lux's, 2.2 auto's. One is White with most extras including pano roof and rear screens (which will serve no purpose what so ever!). The other is my favourite one in grey with surround cameras etc.

Both have the 20" wheels.

I couldn't of been more impressed by them to be honest.

Keep in mind there's a facelift due, August I think.

I like them but I'm kind of staggered how they start at £28K but the local LR dealers has ones in the showroom for £52K - that's a lot of options.

The facelift is minor though.

The pricing is crazy, even the sales girl at a well known LR dealer said anyone who spends £60k on one of them and doesn't buy a RRS is off their rocker.

They certainly feel more than a £30k car though. One of the Directors at my place has just got the new Vogue and the other has the older Overfinch. I've spent a lot of time driving the Overfinch and the Evoque with all the options doesn't feel any less of a car inside in terms of quality IMO.

Try and get the new 9sp auto as its way better than the old 6 speed.
We got our Dynamic in September and ordered it in the June. We got about 10% off with Pan roof, service pack (5year servicing), power boot, privacy glass and spare wheel. An equivalent used was pretty much the same price as brand new so for us it was a no brainer.
The Dynamic will get you a nicer external trim (IMHO) and the better quality leather as well as a number of standard items you'd otherwise have to pay for.

Agreed, didn't realise it was 6-9 months on new. I guess whenever I've looked at them they've struck me as something best bought new with as few options as you could get away with - that's just me though.

Have had a 2.2 4 door HSE for a couple of days as a courtesy car - while the wife's Freelander 2 HSE was being looked at.

Got to admit that I really enjoyed driving it.

Really nice but, if you buy, make sure that it has a reversing camera because the view out of the rear window is poor.

I really like our evoque, nice place to be inside etc etc etc. But, its too small. Due to various reasons, we are needing to either fill it with more people or stuff. Due to the design, the boot entry is smaller than you would think and boot space generally is way smaller than my old Focus. So seriously considering a Disco 4 now.

Just thought I'd say... She ended up buying a 63 plate Dynamic Lux in grey with a black roof and full black pack. She also got the dealer to paint the wheels black and change the RANGE ROVER lettering to black.

It looks bloody gorgeous and I'm so impressed with the interior. It feels very premium over what I expected.

Sounds really nice.

I was going to say on the spec front you need a pano roof and personally I wouldn't be without the heated steering wheel, heated seats and the electric memory seats, but that does depend on where you live and how many people drive it.

I understand there's an issue in the UK with insuring Evoques with keyless entry so I'd either avoid that option, or have it disabled if possible.

It has the pano roof, no idea about heated steering wheel, I've not had a proper play with it yet but she didn't know how to unlock the doors from the inside the other day so I doubt she has a clue!

She's having another alarm fitted to it but it does have keyless entry.

Insurance was less than her previous Shogun.

What is the extra alarm?

Have been thinking about an Evoque but worried about all the tales of keyless theft.

A Cobra one recommended by Harwoods. It has glass shatter sensors etc. I'm guessing they can program it in to the original key? Maybe not.

I was certainly very impressed by them, I've always liked them in coupe form but in the flesh the 5 door looks so much better. I never expected them to be as nice as they are inside. Everything you touch etc has the feel of a proper RR.

I have a friend who has an SD4 Dynamic on order, he lives in central London and parks it on the street, and said he couldn't get it insured if it had keyless.

They really are fantastic inside, we have an Si4 Prestige and the leather dash, real metal and wood bits and the way it all feels make it seem like it's several classes above the likes of the X3 and Q5.

We love ours, the interior really is a classy place to be. Only problem is we have several trim rattles that drive us insane. Will be going back under warranty soon to get them sorted out.

I realy enjoyed driving my Wife's Evoque.
I agree about the interior as well, lovely place to spend a few hours in a long drive.
We paid £45k new with a very high spec and traded it in last year for £34k after 3 years of ownership which I thought was VERY good.
Quality car.

Two new Jag engines are the main bit of the facelift. Dervs have less BHP but more torque, lose 30kg and get another 10+ mpg. Details are now up on the LR website.

After owning an L322 4.4petrol L322 TDV8 Overfinch conversion a RRS (2008) and now onto a 2012 Evoque (prestige lux all extras apart from heated wheel and auto high beam) bought in jan for £30k with 22k on the clock and 12month warranty(Peterborough LR with a full tank of Diesel too wink ) Grey and friend at local bodyshop kindly upgraded me to black styling pack (it's who you know sometimes). I can honestly say it's my most loved! Ok it's not as spacious on hols only with me with and a now 11month old but it's a super drive for comfort, tech and feeling. All the drawbacks compared to the others are brushed away when paying a max of £65 to fill up compared to the £145/120 I paid in the others! Oh and with the tax now halved I tax both the evoque and my TVR for a year at the same cost as just another the RRS

All I can say is they are fantastic do get one with all extras you would like as you'd kick yourself later. Used generally seem to be white, but a vinyl wrap at about £1400 you can negotiate that into the car price if colour is the only thing. Get one they are great. IMO

Spec wise the pan roof makes it feel bigger due to more light coming in and I'd say a must, as said above rear cam is a must.now I have auto boot I don't know how I ever got by without it lol. Glad I held on for signature DRLs too as they are a real nice touch. Enjoy choosing it's a nice problem to have
