Hi, my local landrover dealer is quoting £67 for each door seal (a strip of rubber). On ebay they seem to be about £15. Can anyone advise of the aftermarket ones are OK? my defender is from 1996 so at least through the dealer I'd have the confidence the seals would fit, but from ebay may be it's a risk?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

As far as I know the door seals didnt change from the introduction of the one ten/ninety in 1983 to the present day so shouldnt be a problem with applicability.

As for quality, Land Rover door seals are not the most sophisticated of designs even brand new from the factory, they are a channel of rubber with a metal gripping channel, any should be ok.

Hope this helps

The seals on a Defender are about as simple as they get so go with the cheaper option. There's nothing special about the OEM ones, they just come in packet with a green sticker on them to justify the price.

The Ebay non-gen seals might be just a strip which requires cutting to fit.

We use a company called Baines for certain gaskets etc, and I know they supply OEM seals to the motor industry
Check http://www.coh-baines.co.uk/categories/Landrover/ and see if this is of any use?

Some after market Defender seals don't take in to account the radius just below the window/above the door handle. Try to force a "straight" seal on to the curve and it simply creases up, looks crap and lets in (even more) water.
