My 60k Disco 4 needs new suspension bushes on the front, I believe main dealers will fit complete new arms at a large cost, has anyone tried replacing the bushes themselves using polybush or similar? Any comments and guides gratefully received

Depends which bushes need replacing and if the arms do actually need replacing too. Do you know for definite the dealer will replace the entire assy or are you going on the hearsay of the armchair mechanics on other forums??

FWIW - The T5 platform (Disco 3/4 & RRS) is heavy and does go though bushes at an alarming rate!! Also, stick with genuine and don't poly.

As far as I am aware, the local main dealer Taggarts will replace the whole assembly, could still be covered by warranty in which case I might put it to them but they are uninspiring to say the least. The diagnosis of knackered bushes was given by a local specialist who just replaced a front strut that was leaking air on the car. Are the arms and bushes easily removed/replaced?

Taggarts mean's Motherwell or Glasgow.

I use Glasgow, i have a good relation with 2 of the parts guys and can usually manage 15-20+% off parts.

Got 2 front lower arms, and bolts for my D3 from them a couple of weeks ago.

They aren't that hard to change IF, IF, the bolts come out. If they don't then it's angle grinder time.
I've already had a set done on my car and they were copper slipped so should come out, but i've all new bolts, nuts and washers just in case.

I would be pushing for them to be redone under warranty depending on the age of the car.

Just done the rear uppers on my 06 rrs, bolts seized solid and air hacksaw used to cut them out,yes you can just change bushes but its cheaper to change out the arms in the long run due to labour costs and the fact that the old arms sometimes need to be cut.

All this could have been avoided if LR had just put some grease on the bolts during the build process

I use Britishparts.co.uk for my spares.. main stealer wanted £1200 to do rear arms cost me £300 to do myself, thankfully my mate has a garage and gave me the use of one of his ramps.

Don't forget it will need a full wheel alignment once they are replaced.

£500 for genuine lower front wishbones fitted at a specialist. Budget for alignment too.
