Discovery 4 Purchase
Discussion
Hi all,
I am going to look at this Disco4 on Saturday:
http://stock.highburyautomotive.com.au/details/201...
It's MY '10, with 50k miles on the clock and a full LR service history.
Is there anything I should be looking out for when inspecting other than the usual?
This will be my first LR purchase, so I am relatively green.
Thanks,
Ben

Seems a nice clean example.
It doesn't say if it's a 2.7 or the 3.0 though.
the 2.7 has a belt change of 7 years or 105,000 miles, the 3.0 is 10 years or 150,000 miles.
2.7 has 188 bhp and the 3.0 has 245bhp, there is a big difference in the engines and performance etc.
Check the history is complete and all up to date.
I would strongly urge you to get the gearbox oil megaflushed, ZF the box makers say it should get changed at 50-75k.
Do it early and it will keep the box and torque converter in good health.
I would check all the switches and toys work properly. Drive it in high and low range, you need to put it into neutral to change up/down.
Raise and lower the suspension a few times to work the system.
The compressor should run for 30 seconds max on start up, any longer and it could be getting tired.
Yours may be in the cross over point from the D3 Hitachi unit which is rubbish, and the AMK unit which is far better.
For servicing, i would change the oil, oil filter and air filter every 10,000 miles. LR say the air filter should be every 45k and the oil 15k or so, but imho, that's way too long.

It was a clean car, it drove well, but unfortunately we couldn't agree on price.
It wasn't meant to be and I have no problem walking from a deal if I'm not 100% comfortable.
In the meantime the boss has also informed me that she prefers the RR sport of a similar vintage, so I expect we'll be focusing the search for one of those....

Prepare (for her) to be disappointed by comparison (unless she's a hairdresser, got a name like Chardonnay and has fake tan the colour of a traffic cone)Crossflow Kid said:

That's a little unfair... I'll admit a lot of RRS out there suffer from 'Bling' but there are still plenty of 'understated' examples. Unless you really need the larger boot of a Disco, the RRS is a cracking car.

Similar checks apply as they are the same underneigh, so suspension, transmission and engine checks are the same.
Not as spacious inside, but handle better.
Almost... The RRS is often fitted with the active anti-roll bar (ACE). These can start to leak and expensive to replace. Not as spacious inside, but handle better.

Somehow I don't think the rrs suffers from the same stereotypes in Australia as it does here...
Plus it's just as good off road, with the bonus of 5 less inches in the chassis so doesn't get hung up as much.
What's the use for the car?
Will it be a city and daily car or will it venture off road?

Thought that would be the case.
The two biggest things you can do to improve it will be decent tyres and driving training.
Green oval experience is an Australian LR company that do off road training and also parts for the cars.
You could also check out Australian Land Rover owners club, for local members, decent garages for servicing etc.

You don't live in surrey or berkshire ..... do you ? Seems to be Bling capital !!Unless you really need the larger boot of a Disco, the RRS is a cracking car.

2010 3.0 TDV6 Range Rover Sport in Stornoway Grey with almond leather interior purchased.
The 3.0 feels A LOT better suited to the car.
Hope to pick it up this week - pictures to follow. Thanks for the comments chaps - very useful.
Next on the shopping list - a PH sticker and some green oval driving experiences....
